Terri's Day Announced - March 31 - Groups Call for Special Remembrances of Terri Schiavo

NEW YORK, December 10, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation and Priests for Life have jointly announced the establishment of the "International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters" ("Terri's Day"), to be observed each year on March 31, the date of Terri's death.

The purpose of the day, the groups explained, is to foster education, prayer, and activism regarding discrimination against the disabled, and advocacy for people in situations similar to what Terri and her family faced.

Fr. Frank Pavone said, "Those of us who were with Terri will never forget her life and her death. For the sake of all the vulnerable, it is critically important that those who never knew Terri likewise remember the lessons that God taught us through her."

Suzanne Vitadamo, Terri's sister, adds, "No family should ever have to witness what my family witnessed, watching a loved one slowly dehydrate to death. We want Terri's day to remind us all that persons with disabilities are never burdens and should be treated with nothing but our unconditional love and compassion."

In the early weeks of 2008, educational and prayer materials will be released that can be used by parishes, disability and pro-life groups and all communities to observe Terri's Day.

Father is wavering...

.............................

The emotionally shaken father of a 16-year-old girl in an irreversible coma at Montefiore Medical Center is wavering in his opposition to ending what's left of her life.

"I'm 85% changed in my mind now, but I don't know the legality," said Leonard Peters, whose daughter Javona Peters is in a permanent vegetative state after what was supposed to be a routine operation on Oct. 17.

"I've got to think about it. I've got to talk to my lawyer," he said, a day after the Daily News reported on the teen's condition. "I mean, if nothing is working for Javona, I don't see the point now."

Until Wednesday, Peters opposed pulling the plug. "I don't give life and I cannot take a life," he told The News last week.

Javona's mother, Janet Joseph, has said she wants "to let Javona go in peace" by taking her off her feeding tube. The case is set for a Jan. 7 hearing in Bronx Supreme Court.

The case, first disclosed Wednesday in The News, has attracted national media attention to what could be another right-to-life battle, as in the Terri Schiavo case.........................................

Some may not like this appointee of George W. Bush and his approach to the Judiciary as the true rulers of America. His approach lauds such characters as Greer and Whittemore. I don't.

............."Ann Coulter said that I was a 'hack,' and the worst judicial selection Bush made since he nominated Harriet Miers to the U.S. Supreme Court."

Jones said, "It is alarming to me that the public is being fed this kind of misinformation about the role of the judiciary. Judges should not rule on the basis of who their political benefactors were or are, but on the basis of the law." He added that the increased vitriolic attacks on judges for their rulings, such as when former Rep. Tom DeLay of Texas threatened to "hold federal judges accountable for their rulings" could have a chilling effect.

Jones added that many judges at various levels in the case of Terri Schiavo ruled on the basis of family law, rather than the political approach taken by the U.S. Senate which intervened to make it a federal case. "State courts usuallly decide family law cases. After Terri Schiavo died after her feeding tube was removed, Tom DeLay issued his warning that judges would be held accountable for their rulings." ................

We all need to pinch ourselves because Bill Press sez we are dead. I could feel my blood pressure climbing as I scanned this piece, but found myself laughing instead at the dim logic and leftie lies oozing from the keyboard of this marionette. As we know from these lefties the opposite of what they say is what actually is and what they fear, so maybe we aren't all dead after all, maybe more alive than their night terrors can fathom. He fears Terri! Heh heh.

..........The religious right is dead. It will never again exercise the political clout it once had — which is bad news for Republicans, but good news for the republic.

While in the long term, some moderate Republicans might welcome relief from having to genuflect in front of the pro-life movement and Terri Schiavo, the short-term political impact for the Republican Party is a disaster.......

All time most eulogized...

"One of the most striking aspects of the lists is that they blend the slightly gossipy appeal of guest books for celebrities with the very personal, almost religious and familial aspect of remembering more ordinary people," said Professor Toby Miller, chair of media and cultural studies at the University of California, Riverside, who reviewed the lists at the request of Legacy.com. "The Guest Books commemorate the famous, but also make renowned the suffering of those who aren't famous."

Labeled the "granddaddy" of online obituary and memorialization sites by MarketWatch, Legacy.com hosts obituaries and memorials for more than 60 percent of the people who die in the United States and attracts more than 10 million unique visitors each month.

.........And still, as a woman and a mother, I must reject the religious hypocrisy and politically correct attitude of the religious social discourse, and declare that I am in favor of abortions. I support the right of a woman (or parents) to decide to end the pregnancy because she feels it is impossible for her to proceed with it.

When a woman says “I cannot raise this child” I believe her, and I do not wish to force her (or that child) to embark on a life of distress of one type or another..........

Abortion is murder, but… [It's all about me!]

Religious right is dead

Didn't the media declare conservatism "dead" when Barry Goldwater (who some call the "father of conservatism" even though he never really was a true conservatism) lost to LBJ? And then didn't the media say that conservatism was REALLY "dead" when Ford beat Reagan for the GOP nomination in 1976? This is just another variation on that same theme. The left will always minimize and marginalize the importance and influence of what they fear the most.

Javona's mother, Janet Joseph, has said she wants "to let Javona go in peace" by taking her off her feeding tube.

I guess she has bought into the whole forced dehydration and starvation is "beautiful and euphoric" line of BS. Perhaps she should talk to come concentration camp or gulag survivors about their experiences with it, or just try not eating or drinking anything for a couple of days and see how she feels.

What pisses me off is that the culture of death has duped so many people into believing that starvation and dehydration is acceptable when a modicum of common sense screams otherwise.

This is what Greer and Michael feared - a new drug. No wonder they were in such a frenzy to get her killed with the pathetic Jeb Bush wringing his hands.

Doesn't anyone get second opinions any more? It seems like Javona's mom was vulnerable to the doctor's will and agenda. Dad is likely tired and thinking too far into the future. It's not hard to fight for someone while there's still time but it sure as shooting is impossible to bring them back once they've suffered and died.

(the feloser is behind on his 2nd book. Things aren't working out as he planned...apparently the world didn't follow the pied piper of starvation and dehydration).

Javona update...

Her life is in the hands of a judge.

...................................

The medical staff at Montefiore Hospital offered an explanation for the unexpected consequences of the “routine” operation. Apparently Javona suffered an allergic reaction to the anesthetic, which ended up provoking an oxygen insufficiency. The 90 minutes surgical intervention was performed by Dr. James Goodrich, who was aware of the girl’s condition, as he had previously met his young patient when she was only 3 years old.

What came as a tremendous shock for her parents turned into a legal fight weeks after the tragedy. The Bronx Supreme Court is set to rule a decision on January 7 on whether to take off Javona’s life support or not. The matter turned to the court of law as the two are not married and want different things for their daughter. While the mother, Janet Joseph, fights for full custody in order to potentially terminate her daughter’s vegetative state, the father, Leonard Peters fights for his daughter’s life.

In a ABCNEWS.com interview, Peters said: “When you see your kid go into the hospital, and then find out that she can’t talk or move, it is not a good feeling. […] It is not up to me to decide who lives and who dies. I don’t give life and I don’t take it away.”

~Snip~

This is not the first case when a family dispute reaches court, implying the right to decide someone’s fate. Terri Schiavo’s case became known when a Florida court granted her husband the right to remove her life support after seven years of legal disputes with Terri’s family. The case is a bit different if we take into account the age of the patient and the circumstances, but that still remains to be decided. The hearings are set for January 7, 2008.

Javona again...

From Fox News: The father is wavering. Who will advocate for this poor kid?

........................

A 16-year old girl in an irreversible coma at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City is at the center of an emotional court case. The teen's mother told the NY Daily News that she wants to take her daughter off all life-supporting machines. At first the teen's father said he would fight that decision.

But now Leonard Peters is wavering in his opposition.

"I'm 85 percent changed in my mind now, but I don't know the legality," said Peters.

16-year-old Javona Peters was a healthy high school junior until she went into the operating room on Oct. 17. Now she is in a permanent vegetative state — blind, deaf, and unable to move, think or eat on her own.

The case is set for a Jan. 7 hearing in Bronx Supreme Court.

Here comes a vitriolic outpouring of rage from an American who hails from the Religion of Peace. In his claims to be patriotic, he spews every mantra from the far left he can fit into his keyboard in a pattern carefully disjointed from reason, and in it he lumps Terri.

At least he loathes himself, with my apologies to his father for noting this observation...

"I'm a self-loathing Republican. We've gone from being a party of confidence and fiscal restraint and individual liberty to being the party that encouraged intervention in Terry Schiavo's case, this disastrous experience in Iraq, Katrina, and an $8.5 trillion debt. It was hogs feeding at the trough from Jack Abramoff to Karl Rove. I'm just sad and angry." — Christopher Buckley, Men's Vogue.

Carrie K. Hutchens in The Dakota Voice...

I just took a poll of the people around me and it was unanimous -- no votes for Hillary! What makes any other poll fairer or more unfair than the one I just conducted?

There was a time when I respected polling and thought there was some positive benefit to conducting them and studying the results. I suppose that was when companies, candidates and others truly wanted to know what the people thought. It was before the rigged questions with answers that were likely to get a specific (and determined) end result. It was before the rigged polls were used to sway public opinion. After all, there are some people who go with the numbers, rather than deciding for self. And, by wording the questions just so... one can often plant other false information in the minds of unwitting people. The Terri Schiavo case comes to mind.

The first poll I saw regarding Terri Schiavo was asking if one thought she should be taken off life-support, as though she were on a ventilator or other such machines. It sounded as though they were all that were keeping her alive, but that was certainly not the case. However, all these many years later, there are still those people who are positive that Terri was brain dead and merely kept alive by machines breathing for her and to keep her heart pumping. The false message was planted and it stuck. Stuck so much so that no amount of proof to the contrary seems to have any affect on their belief. Amazing!...................
