NFL Network play-by-play announcer Bryant Gumbel is suffering from a sore throat and will be replaced by Tom Hammond for Thursday's Broncos-Texans broadcast at Reliant Stadium, a network spokesman said Tuesday.
Hammond will join Cris Collinsworth, with whom he called a playoff game last year for NBC, for the NFL Network broadcast, said network spokesman Seth Palansky.
Gumbel, meanwhile, will rest up for the network's Saturday night game between the Bengals and 49ers. He will work the game with Deion Sanders and Marshall Faulk as Collinsworth prepares for his Sunday job on NBC's Football Night in America.
This is the second time in as many seasons that NFL Network has had to shuffle announcer lineups because of illness. Last December, analyst Dick Vermeil was unable to work the second half of a Cowboys-Falcons game because of throat problems and was replaced by Sanders and Faulk.
The Broncos-Texans game will air in Houston on NFL Network and on KTXH (Channel 20).
May he never return to play by play!
And we should care about this leftist troll’s temporary absence because...?
Will Bryant be missed?
NFL network has lined up some must see games....Broncos/Texans...and Saturday’s Niners/Bengals matchup. Where do I sign up?
Hey, I’ll actually enjoy the game now!
No!!!!!! Good lord he is awful.
btw, how does Gumbel, or anyone else know how he is going to feel tomorrow?
Well, this just convinces me I have no use for NFL Network; regardless of how much I like Football.
Like a boil on my ass, or a dose of clap
He is a freaking socialist, liberal slime ball. EVERYTHING they do is by FEEL. How they feel. How you feel. How we should feel. Everything is touchy feely with liberals.
Good point.
Apologies to Texans' fans. I love Gary Kubiak and the Texans and cheer for them every week, except this one. I think it'll be a good game.
It figures they’d get someone like Bryant Gumbel. This particular Gumbel rivals Keith Olbermann as a leftist, self absorbed, over inflated ego, a**hole.
I hope the NFL network fails miserably. Same goes for the Big Ten network. The sports teams are starting to offer things more and more on a pay per view. Shame on them. If it’s not on my tv, (part of my cable package), I don’t watch it. When the Buckeyes were on the Big Ten network, I listened on the radio as I did other things. If the Browns manage to show up on the NFL network, I’ll do the same with them.
The more games I miss, the more I realize I didn’t really miss them. Take the drug from the addict, watch him get clean and not need you anymore, and then wonder what you’ll do with your drugs. Good plan NFL and Big Ten.
Man, where’s the love? </sarc>
After the disaster of his last outing, I think the sore throat may be permanent.
There are reports that Bryant Gumbel ditched this commitment so he could attend a GOP meeting and look for a date...
His brother is a fine announcer. But Bryant is what Preparation H was created for.
