McCain Blasts MoveOn.org - Again

INMAN, S.C. – John McCain is setting his sights on MoveOn.org again, railing on the liberal political organization for calling on members of Congress to oppose any war spending bill that doesn’t include a timetable for pulling troops out of Iraq.

“I can only draw one conclusion from what the Democrats are trying to do today and cut off the funding is that their political priorities have taken over their dedication to our nation’s security and I don’t say that lightly,” McCain said.

“These are good men and women on the other side of the aisle but they’re being driven by the most radical left wing organization and the name of it is called MoveOn.org.”

"My friends we’ve reached a sad day in America," he added.

Yesterday, when McCain heard what MoveOn.org was up to said, “Shame on Moveon.org. Shame on them for the ad they ran in the New York Times questioning the patriotism of a great American general, Petraeus. Shame on them for this because these young men and women are succeeding and they need our support and funding, not a filibuster.”

McCain blasted MoveOn.org back in September when the group took a full-page ad out in the New York Times, just before Gen. David Petraeus testified before Congress with a status report on the war.

In September, McCain called the ad “disgraceful” and said MoveOn.org “ought to be thrown out of this country.”

He is wrong on many issues, particularly the border, but I admire him on this. He would be a strong commander in chief.

Nice tagline. I am reminded of what McCain said in the debate earlier today - that we should have a ‘Manhattan Project’ for energy independence.

Just don’t let him be in charge of the border.

I wonder if he will get the same press for flogging the same horse twice.

I would question his being a ‘strong commander in chief’ BECAUSE he is soft on illegal immigration and border security. We simply must secure our borders and ports, and reverse illegal immigration, or we will not be able to consider ourselves secure.
I am amazed that Mr. McCain has not come to this understanding. I’ve heard him say that it would be impossible to get the illegals out of the US. BUT NO ONE HAS TRIED... Cut off their employment (sanctions on the employers), cut off their aid network (no more free services, anywhere), and cut off sanctuary cities from Federal assistance funds (all). That should make a nice start.

McCain has already admitted his mistake and committed to secure borders first.

From the same townhall (not quoted in this story), McCain: “We should address this issue with humanity, with compassion, but we cannot reward anyone who breaks our laws and enters our country illegally.”

The only problem is that Juan was so wrong on such a big issue as amnesty - if he was that wrong about something in the recent past, he’ll probably be that wrong again in the future over something equally important.

But I also want McCain to drop out - Thompson and Romney would end up benefitting the most if he did. But bashing moveon is ALWAYS a good idea, they should be marganilized.

I have a bit of a problem with a change of stance in the course of a political campaign... Seems a bit self-serving, to me.

My support will go to the candidate who has consistently represented positions with which I agree; not someone who has changed his/her public position on important issues of the day in their race to the White House.

"McCain has already admitted his mistake and committed to secure borders first."

You really believe this? I am amazed that pandering still works with such a large percentage of American Voters. McCain was selling this Country out over the summer and now... he has seen the light??

Beam me up!

God help America it is officially brain dead.

Is there any pandering now coming from Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, or Mike Huckabee? All four have checkered pasts on immigration.

No, if McCain really wanted to pander he would’ve followed the clear political tea leaves from 2006 and never taken up a bill this year. Only when it was firmly rejected did he say, you don’t trust us and I am willing to work to secure the border to re-earn your trust. I admire that actually.
