ROXBURY, Conn. (AP) ― A school custodian's impromptu after-hours karaoke performance prompted a police response when a teacher thought she was being threatened over the loudspeaker.
State police say a teacher at Booth Free School barricaded herself inside a classroom Wednesday when she mistook someone singing a Guns N' Roses song over the public address system for a threat.
She was working after hours and thought no one else was in the building. Then she heard someone say over the loudspeaker that she was going to die.
Six troopers and three police dogs showed up and found three teenagers, one of them a custodian at the school, who had been playing with the public address system.
Police say one of them sang "Welcome to the Jungle" into the microphone. The song contains the lyrics "You're in the jungle baby; you're gonna die."
The teenagers were cuffed on the ground for about 15 minutes while police investigated. They were released after being questioned and state police Sgt. Brian Ness said they did not realize the teacher was in the school and will not face charges.
"These things happen," Van Ness said. "Luckily it was humorous. You kind of have a gut feeling. As soon as we got there, we spoke to the three kids. They understood."
LOL!
best thread comment so far!
Barry Manilow would be a felony.
Im sort of amazed these kids even knew who Guns and Roses are/were - I was still in high school when that song came out!
Yea, it’s amusing. I was was surprised the first time our 17 year old grand daughter turned the station to an oldies station with Aerosmith playing. Old is new again. She wants the game guitar hero for Christmas. Has all these old tunes that I listened to as a kid.
Not-a-Ping
Even more amazing is the fact that “Appetite for Destruction” is now over 20 years old!
15 mins? Handcuffed on the floor? Yep, the gestapo has to arrest and restrain anyone they come in contact with immediately. It's for your protection don't ya know.
For shame!
Don't you realize how close those three came to being blasted into oblivion?
Suppose they had been dooin' "rap", instead??
Or “One in a Million” which wood have brought Al and Jesse to the school.

Needless to say, it was a boring night, about 3:00am. We played terrorist attack with machine gun noises and screams into the PA system. I sounded really cool until we heard a door slam and observed a very pale and scared computer operator sprinting down the hallway to the emergency exit.
It took us some very fast talking and a carton of Winstons to keep our jobs that night.
Maybe if you do what these boys should have done. Sing Solo.
So low, no one can hear you!!
And Celine Dion would be a violation of the Eighth Amendment.
I remember the first time I heard Welcome to the Jungle was a Dirty Harry movie The Dead Pool and Jim Carey was the actor mimicking it for a video shoot.
Should have followed it with “Fat Bottomed Girls.”
It’s a good thing these teenagers were not playing a Christan song like “There’s Power in the Blood”, otherwise the ACLU would be filing lawsuits that night.
My teenaged daughter and son says they and their friends prefer the older rock. Says today's stuff has no style.
Talk about someone who is a little tightly wound.
If she had just listened instead of reacting emotionally, she would have easily been able to determine that it was a bunch of kids messing around with the PA system.
On the other hand, it’s a myth that women respond emotionally to threating events. I’ve been told this during my sensitivity training seminar.
