GOP presidential hopeful Fred Thompson courted Social Conservatives in Florida by supporting the Florida Marriage amendment. Thompson issues the following statement:

"I applaud the work of Florida Coalition to Protect Marriage. Their efforts will give the people of Florida a voice on this very important subject. I strongly believe in the time honored principle of marriage being a union between one man and one woman, the foundation of any civilized society. Florida's Marriage Amendment will have my support in 2008. As President, I will appoint judges who apply the law, not make it up from the bench. We should not be held subject to judicially created social policy, and I will use the bully pulpit of the Presidency to defend the institution of marriage."

Supporters for the amendment who seek to protect the institution of marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman have gathered over 600,000 signatures to place the issue on the ballot on November 4, 2008.

Floriuda is starting to look like another state that is up fro grabs in the GOP primary. Giuliani, Paul, and Thompson all seem to have support on the ground in the diverse state

I think that is the way to go. Sorry state of affairs when the country has slipped so low that the states even have to consider the issue of what marriage is. All civilizations of the world have known since Adam and Eve, but apparently the snake in the garden didn't quite agree with the divine pronouncement.

The snake must have stowed away on the ark during the flood.

I am glad Fred is on board...

But I am still concerned this will not pass. Florida changed its Amendment process....requiring 60% yes vote to pass a new Const. Amendment (it used to be a simple majority)

Florida more and more is becoming very liberal....even many GOPers are RINOs (Mel Martinez, et al)

I bet many of those who support the Gay Marraige ban will kick themselves for also supporting the change in Const Amendments requiring 60% vote
