AG Researching Laws on Admitting Illegals to Colleges

Durham — Last month, North Carolina’s community college system changed its policy to require its 58 campuses to enroll illegal immigrants if they met the schools' standards for other students.

This week, Gov. Mike Easley said North Carolina can't turn its back on anyone who wants an education, including illegal immigrants. But some are asking what the point is since it’s against the law to hire a well-educated illegal worker.

Attorney General Roy Cooper spoke about the issue and his involvement in it Thursday.

“The community colleges asked us, ‘What is the status of the law right now regarding illegal immigrants (being) given admission to North Carolina community colleges?’” Cooper said. “Our lawyers are researching the federal laws, the state laws, all of the statutes. We will be rendering an opinion to them very shortly.”

At Lee's Air Conditioning and Custom Sheet Metal, many employees come from the community college system. But there is a new crop of graduates that Human Resources Director Miles Standish said he won't bring on board.

“I will not hire people who come from the community college system that have been admitted [but are undocumented] and are admitted illegal aliens,” Standish said.

There's the catch - illegals can't possibly meet the same criteria, exceptions are going to have to be made which will subject NC to litigation, further costing taxpayers.

Most schools use the SS# to ascribe credits to students. How will a stolen or fake SS# help an illegal acquire a degree?

Let’s not get too excited about this. The outcome of this research is going to be twisted into a “Yes, it’s ok to admit illegals to college.”. Then the precedent is set.

Don't be too sure - the standards aren't all that high these days. It's either have a high school diploma or hate George Bush.

The actual status of NC is that NC has gone the way of Mexifornia. NC is almost a lost cause, due to the democrat policies running the state. Some of the democrats, in the legislature, are under indictment or in jail for bribes, etc. By estimates, NC has close to or over one million illegals.

I think I will have my daughter apply to NC and if in-state tuition is not granted, sue under the equal protection clause.

I think these students should be allowed to attend college in whatever country they came here from, illegally. What seems absurd to me is it is even a consideration.

I have no doubt that there are about 2 billion people on the planet that would just love the citizens of the state of North Carolina to pay for their education. And while we're at it, we can throw in free health care and free housing. After all, it's only fair, right?

What is of utmost importance is that the gov. FEEL good about himself, and since it isn't his own money he is giving away, he gets to play hero and it doesn't cost him a dime. And the MSM types will heap him with all of the praise he can handle. It's guaranteed.

How long before the general population wakes up and has its awful, nasty way with all of the self-serving narcissists in government and the media? Once the average citizen realizes that their (supposed) representatives are selling them out for their own personal gain or personal sense of ethics (Can you say compassionate conservative?), god help the traitors and narcissists.
