Hillary Agonistes ... (nomination gone from "inevitable" to "doomed")

Has Hillary Clinton's candidacy for the Democrats' nomination gone from "inevitable" to "doomed" in the space of a few weeks? Momentum always is a precious factor as the compressed primary season looms, with undecideds making up their minds and contributors wanting to back the likely winner

But special circumstances surround the junior senator from New York. For years she has exercised what seem like special powers, as well-entrenched Clinton allies in the press and a political machine unmatched in resources and ruthlessness served to support her version of the narrative in major conflicts with her enemies. Generous use of victim status also has always been a winner for her in then past.

Think of the treatment poor Rick Lazio received when he "violated her space" during a debate in her run for the Senate. I have never, before or since, heard of another candidate using the concept of personal space to target and demonize an opponent. But with Hillary's superpowers, such narratives could be made to stick, at least among those members of the voting public who don't expose themselves to much beyond the New York Times/CBSNBCABCCNN media bubble.

But the old tactics she has used with success no longer work against Barack Obama. Hillary's superpowers have met their version of kryptonite.

Obama is a seemingly nice guy, inspiring to some with his rhetoric of change and hope. And of course he is black. She can't really out-victim him. To switch metaphors, his victim card is a King, while hers is only a Queen. And being a sympathetic character to many, attacks on him, such as the accusation of little Barry being a kindergartener consumed with ambition to be president, have a way of backfiring on her.

If Hillary loses, the fault will be entirely hers. The Smartest Woman In The World has revealed she isn't competent at running a national campaign. Quite simply put, she can't take the pressure. If beating a nobody like Barack Obama is a problem for her, then how is she going to deal as President with the likes of Medvedev and Chavez? Golly gee - you wouldn't know it from her panicked reaction to the prospect of looming defeat that this is the same woman who has assured us she is ready to handle the most important job in America. I think the American people know far better. Hillary is just not ready.

Glickstein, a 38-year-old maintenance worker whose beagle howled incessantly as he spoke to the former first lady, said he had intended to vote for Clinton already.

Glickstein should listen to what his beagle is trying to tell him. The dog sounds way smarter than the owner.

Exactly ! The press is going to make some token effort to not appear to be in the bag for her, and this is it. Come this time next month, it will be all Hillary! all the time. With the most glowing and fawning lines of BS that you can imagine. It is going to be nauseating moving into Super Tuesday...

I believe that sHrillary fully expected a grand coronation, complete with fawning adoration of a grateful throng. What she will settle for is the largest piece of a tattered carcass.

I expect her to “win” the nomination, but it will take every trick in the Clintonian Handbook of Diabolical Schemes in order to acheive it.

She simply will. Not. Be. Denied...

I think it would be very close and Hillary would be battered and weakened candidate going into the general election. When half the Dems don't like and don't trust her, that makes her chances of getting to the Oval Office a lot harder. She has to demonstrate she can win first - somewhere.

Hillary is not going to lose...not now, not ever and not to likes of this piker, Obama!
They will destroy Obama one way or another, and I feel bad for him and his family in that regard. There will be something bad that comes out about Obama, especially if he has the temerity to actually win a primary or two. The severity of the accusation, will be directly proportional to the success Obama is having.
