Steve King endorses Thompson for president
The Sioux City Journal ^ | December 17, 2007 | Dan Gearino

U.S. Rep. Steve King endorsed Fred Thompson for president on Monday, a move Thompson supporters hope will provide fresh momentum in the final two weeks before the caucuses.

"There is only one candidate who epitomized the full spectrum of our conservative values," King said at a Des Moines news conference.

King, a Kiron Republican, said he didn't reveal his choice to anyone, not even his wife, until the news conference. Representatives from Mitt Romney's and Thompson's campaigns were in the audience.

Bob Haus, executive director of Thompson's Iowa campaign, was there.

"Let me just say we're honored," he said. "I think liberals look to The (Des Moines) Register and conservatives look to Steve King."

King said he is willing to help Thompson however he can, including campaigning on Thompson's behalf.

"I will put all my efforts and the fire into the belly of the person whom I believe destiny has called to be the next president of the United States," King said.

This is a boost, and gives Thompson added credibility among border security advocates.

Excellent!

I can't keep up with all the US reps named King. Is this guy from Iowa or New York?

This one is from northwestern Iowa, and is a strong border security advocate.

Even better, the Mittwitts heads exploded when he endorsed Fred. They were all arrogantly expecting King to endorse their guy. ;-)

I’m glad that King didn’t swallow the kool-aid.

US Congressman Steve King of Iowa’s 5th district.

He owns the conservative wing of the Iowa Republican party!

Congressman Steve King is a name I remember from the time of my breaking article on Chuck Grassley being senior to Arlen Specter for the Judiciary Chaimanship after the 2004 election.

Apparently, he has ties to Iowa Right to Life, which has chosen not to endorse any candidate. However, this endorsement might be an important one considering Steve King's ties to Iowa Right to Life...

Thats great!

To those who come on Freerepublic in the coming weeks to see who the preferred candidate is, check out Fred Thompson's credentials. The mainstream media would prefer you don’t know.

Fred is the most creditable on ‘illegal immigration’. Check out the major anti illegal immigration organizations, they generally give him the best recommendations besides Tancredo and Hunter.

The ‘other’ top tier republican candidates are all faux anti-illegal immigration. They’re just pandering for votes, with poor past records.

Take a look at Fred for yourself on all his well layed out positions, and forget what the mainstream media says about him...

“US Congressman Steve King of Iowa’s 5th district.

Talk about influence in the state Fred needs it. That’s about as good an endorsement as you can get...in the greater scheme of things.

Thompson is fourth in Iowa on the RCP polls average.

There are 16 days between now and the Iowa caucus.
Steve King will be a real King Maker if this amounts to any upward movement for Fred.
