Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's breakneck rise in the national polls has reached Florida, prodding a fledgling band of supporters to throw together a ground game in the nation's fourth-largest state.
Three Florida polls in the past week put Huckabee in first or second place, jockeying with longtime front-runner Rudy Giuliani. That's a stunning turn of events for a candidate who ranked near the bottom just last month and has invested little time and no money in the state.
A strong showing by Huckabee in the Jan. 29 primary could upend Giuliani, who's counting on a rout in Florida to carry him through other large states voting a week later. The former New York mayor is the closest Florida has to a hometown candidate.
''There are some built-in advantages that will be difficult for Mike Huckabee to overcome,'' said Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, who endorsed the former governor of Arkansas last week. ``To even be in striking distance to Giuliani would be a huge victory for any of the candidates, and a huge blow to Giuliani.''
Huckabee's challenge: make up for the months that rivals like Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and John McCain have spent positioning staff, mobilizing volunteers and tapping donors around Florida. And do it in six weeks.

I still think Huck is going to have a Cuban problem. That vote is up for grabs now.

Gee, only about another year of surging, waining, rising, falling, winning, and losing in various polls to keep me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I can hardly wait.
The only poll that counts or matters is the last one on election day and that’s the ballot box.
I’m looking forward to the day after the election when the new exciting race and campaign for the Presidency begins and the polls start all over again.
I wonder if Gore, Jon Francois Carry, Dennis Kookyspinich and Herself The Beast will be running again. Gee, I certainly hope so. Maybe we can get Harold Stassen back just one more time.
It’s never ending and so cost effective.

I do not believe in virtually any state poll other than the Mason Dixon poll which had been very accurate in state polls.
Very accurate, and certainly not any media poll.
I do not support Rudy, but believing that the Huckster is going to win Florida is almost tantamount to believing in the tooth fairy.
I am hoping for a real degrading of Rudy's position here and a concomitant surge by Fred to take Florida, but that is probably just another dream, as well.

I read the story twice and couldn’t find specific mention of which “three Florida polls” the writer is referring to. It mentions two national polls by name but not the Florida polls.

Nominating this goof-ball is giving Hillary the only kind of election she can win: one in which she runs basically unopposed.

Rush just 10 minutes ago said it was getting near time for him to step in and warn Huck voters they are being fooled — that he only steps in when he needs to warn people from fake conservatives, and Huckleberry is getting there.
In other words, huckleberry is toast.

Rasmussen is okay. Des Moines Register is pretty good in Iowa. Research 2000, maybe.

Zogby was dead on in predicting both the GOP and Democratic gubernatorial primaries last year:
Zogby showed Crist ahead of Gallagher by 29.5% Crist won by 30.5%
Zogby also showed Davis leading Smith by 4.9% Davis won 6.1%

Zogby gets some right and some terribly wrong. Overall his record is poor.
