So the socialists at Time chose the press-squashing, opponent-jailing, freedom-restricting Vlad the Putin. Pathetic choice, I agree.
I would like to have this thread be a place where we can have a conversation about who OUGHT to be the "Person of the Year".
No real rules, since a conversation can go several places.
I would suggest, however, that we pick someone who is not an "icon", or who could credibly be the POY every single year.
For instance, Rush Limbaugh--I love the guy, and he COULD be POY every year...but he is pretty much extraordinary EVERY year. I am thinking we ought to suggest someone who has, this year especially, been a hero to advancing the cause of freedom.
But hey, that is just a suggestion. Let's have some fun.

President Bush is Man of the Year. It's been 2293 days since terrorists made an attack on U.S. soil.

I’d go with Sarkozy, with Putin as my second choice.

Thank you very much :)
I am just an amateur translator and someone who shut down terrorist websites and forums :)
The great honors for the Man of the Year go to General Petraeus, our brave troops, and President Bush.

Obviously there is only one choice every year, and it is Jesus Christ. Every year he gives millions of people around the world, who have no chance in this life, an eternal life beyond anything we can comprehend in terms of ever increasing love, joy, and peace.
General Petraeus is a great second choice for doing some of His work in Iraq, setting the captive free from the oppression of terrorism, and tribal hatred and revenge.

Sheikh Abdul Sattar al-Rishawi.
To him belongs the victory in Iraq and the pretender Al Gore’s Nobel Peace prize.

Have there ever been a female person of the year?

So many good replies/choices on this thread. I can see why it’s a difficult decision. Even some foreigners might deserve recognition, and consideration.
I know I'm prejudice, but methinks it's the Grunts on the ground. Why?
There is a real chance that an infant democracy, however flawed, will have a chance to reach adolescents.
Just like Germany and Japan.
Where we still have troops.
