So the socialists at Time chose the press-squashing, opponent-jailing, freedom-restricting Vlad the Putin. Pathetic choice, I agree.
I would like to have this thread be a place where we can have a conversation about who OUGHT to be the "Person of the Year".
No real rules, since a conversation can go several places.
I would suggest, however, that we pick someone who is not an "icon", or who could credibly be the POY every single year.
For instance, Rush Limbaugh--I love the guy, and he COULD be POY every year...but he is pretty much extraordinary EVERY year. I am thinking we ought to suggest someone who has, this year especially, been a hero to advancing the cause of freedom.
But hey, that is just a suggestion. Let's have some fun.
I’d vote for Sarkozy, with an honorable mention for Angela Merkel in Germany and Stephen Harper in Canada. Our old allies are coming back to the fold. And while they opted out of Iraq, our NATO allies are getting it done in Afghanistan.
General Petraeus!
On a state wide basis Dan Patrick the radio station owner and talk show host from Houston who got elected to State Senator with like 73% MOV would deserve an honorable mention.
DITTO !!!!
General David Petraeus is my first choice. But Sarkozy is my second. I’ll have picked that French leader over Putin.
Well —I was thinking this dealt with FR type folks. Other than those worthy candidates named above, I would certainly nominate, not one person, but one group. The DC Freepers who are at Walter Reed every Friday (in fact, they should be just now getting back from their Freep).
Yup, for guts, grit, determination and sheer love for the troops —The DC Freepers!!!
Thanks for the ping, Chris.
Already posted (#14) but when it comes to FReeper Of The Year...sheesh...so many come to mind...icwhatudo, jveritas, doug from upland, allegra, nw_arizona_granny, cindy, etc., etc., etc.
It sure would be hard to choose 1.
I have no quibble with any of the nominees but I see no reason to extend the conversation beyond Rush Limbaugh. He’s had an extraordinary year - from slapping down Harry Reid to being a daily warrior against Global Warming. Without him, many of us wouldn’t know what we know.
Give it to Rush.
Definitely, Petraeus’ surge strategy, and Sarkozy’s victory in France are the two best geopolitical things that happened in an otherwise pretty bad year.
Excellent choices. In the end, I’m going with General Petraeus.
Second.
FReeper of the year? A group award to The Walter Reed Friday Night crew. Fantastic work, every single week.
I've already nominated Syncro for a Buckhead - see **CNN's six "undecided voters" were all Democratic operatives** I believe icwhatudo is also deserving but I can't put my finger on why.
And Doug From Upland and Kristinn should get Golden FR Microphones for their great work on the airwaves and through public appearances.
RIP, Tonk. You're remembered too.
Good Hunting... from Varmint Al
Jeff Sessions
Pshaw!! Fair weather friends at best, IMO. ;-)
General David Petraeus, hands down.
I second that.
My inclusion of Inhofe is because of his sometimes thankless work to battle the notion of human-induced Global Warming. He doesn't have the microphone or reach Rush Limbaugh has...he is doing it in the dark, liberal sycophant-filled halls of the Capitol. If you look at some of the work he has done on the job, you'd be mightily impressed too. Check it out:
