Cuba has claimed the Mineral Rights up to the High Tide mark

How will they defend those so called rights?

The usual way - their Chinese friends will buy-off US politicians for them.

They’ll hire hollywood to make a series of movies for them and then pay off some corrupt politicians.

“We could invade the Federal Reserve Bank and force interest rates up. That would cause the value of the dollar to rise on world markets and consequently cause the price of oil to drop.”

You say that in jest, but it is not far from the truth. Artificial suppression of interest rates has contributed to a different type of inflation (vs price inflation) through the unbridled purchase of goods from abroad and the devalued dollar. Sooner or later it WILL be reflected in prices.

Yes, do a keyword search on shale and you will find plenty of FR discussion. There may be better keywords to look for, but that will get you started.

For example:

Raytheon Technology Shows Promise in Extracting Oil from Shale Economically

Shell's ingenious approach to oil shale is pretty slick ($30/Barrel Cost-"unlimited" US supply)

I like the idea of eliminating the House of Saud....While we’re at it we could level Mecca and Medina.

My first thought precisely. Frikkin’ federal gas tax should be the first thing to go.

No need to invade anyone, but we need to shed ourselves of obstructionist Democrats in Congress. After we do that, we can:

*Drill ANWAR
*Drill Offshore
*Increase Nuclear Power
*Harness more of our raging rivers for Hydro power
*Build a freakin’ refinery or two (D’Oh!)
*Tap into our coal reserves
*A Natural Gas pipeline from AK down to the lower 48
*Drop the hundreds of reformulated fuels we have and run on ONE
*Drop all state and local taxes on gasoline, which will take a good buck off of the price of each gallon for the consumer

Oh, and always a good one to remember, from President Jimmah Carter, “Turn down your thermostat and wear a sweater.” *SMIRK*

Actually, I’m feeling generous today, so I’ll add that we really could do better on conservation. However, my want of that is surpassed by my love of a Free Market.

In the meanwhile, I’ll just watch my gold & silver skyrocket and make me wealthy while the ‘Rats dick around for a few more decades. :)

Can you imagine the battle. The DNC leadership using their elite ACLU lawyers as human shields, would slide down into the sewers of DC. They’d reemerge cleaner than when they went in.

It would be a real hoot that the price of oil would go down substantially before the election, so Hillary will not get the credit of lowering the price of oil.

“DNC Headquarters?”

Not only DNC ... the GOP establishment as well. We could have been independent by now if the political establishment would actually DO something instead of speaking of ‘oil independence’ at election time. In this regard the GOP is as culpable as the Dems.

Wall Street and Chicago Board of Mercantile Trading. I think most of the problem is rooted with the commodity traders.

AAOOOGAHHH!! AAOOOGAHHH!! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

These guys hide behind the claim that "The market must be allowed to operate." They are worthy of getting hurt.

DNC Headquarters?

You are too kind. For six years, the GOP controlled the White House and both houses of Congress, and yet absolutely nothing was done in the interests of energy independence.

We should invade ANWAR for the oil, eastern Utah and western Colorado for the oil shale and seize the lower 2/3 of Illinois, for that much of the state literally floats on a bed of coal. In fact, the US has twice the hydrocarbons in the form of oil, gas, coal and shales than Arab OPEC has in the form of oil and gas.
