Isn’t Tony Cordesman the guy that claimed ‘we won’t take Kabul for at least six months’ only to see Kabul fall about 72 hours later?

My guess is that Israel would do some kind of preemptive strike if they had even a hint that they were about to be nuked. No one in the Israeli leadership (no matter what party) would even think otherwise given what the aftermath of nuke strike would be, even if they were considered to “win”. I suspect the leaders of other countries know this and that makes for some interesting politics. Wild card is Iran with a leadership that’s not necessarily rational.

And is there a Roman nation, a Roman nation recognized by the UN, say?

I would say let ‘em wipe each other out, but I couldn’t afford $10.00 / gallon gas.

The 70A.D. Diaspora was predicted in the New Testament

That's a bit of an understatement: it's anticipated and expected throughout the entire New Testament. What do you think Matthew 24 is all about? (Hint: verse 34 is important!)

Yes one and the same. Cordesman is the Dick Morris of the military analyst set.

"Rational actors do not fight nuclear wars, but history is not written about rational actors behaving in a rational manner..."

Well, duh, Captain Obvious.

Matthew 24 covers many periods of time, including not only the Diaspora but also the Great Tribulation.

All of which - see verse 34 - were to happen during that generation. Either they did, or Jesus was wrong. Hint: Jesus is never wrong.

It all seems believable except the part about 21 days. I just don’t think it would last that long.

The word for "generation," genea, primarily has the idea of begetting, as in a family. It's use as a marker of time is actually only its secondary definition. See Thayer's discussion here.

Yeshua was actually punning, speaking of both the judgment in His day and the eschatological Second Coming at the same time. It's a common motif in Biblical prophecy.

I’m sorry, I don’t agree with the preterist view, no offense.

But, we’ll see how things play out. :)

No offense taken; I've only held that view for a couple years myself, and it took me several years to become convinced, so I can't really blame people who disagree with me.

Concerning vs. 34 of Matthew 24. “This generation” refers to those living when the things of Matthew 24 take place. I place emphasis on verses 26-31 and those have not occured.

Concerning vs. 34 of Matthew 24. “This generation” refers to those living when the things of Matthew 24 take place. I place emphasis on verses 26-31 and those have not occured.

Such an interpretation renders the verse meaningless, distorts the obvious intent of his words (spoken to a specific audience - hint: not us), and is the usual contortion used to fit the passage into a preconceived mold.

And merely stating that the events of verses 26 to 31 have not occurred is not the same as demonstrating that they have not. I'd state that occurred during that generation, just as Jesus said they would.

Just my opinion :)
