Looks like whoever becomes President is going to have to worry about a resurgent Soviet Union.
Russia Selling Iran Sophisticated New Air Defense System
EHRAN, Iran Russia is selling Iran a new and sophisticated air defense system that experts say is capable of dealing a serious blow against would-be attackers.
The new S-300 air defense system signals growing miitary cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said Wednesday.
“The S-300 air defense system will be delivered to Iran on the basis of a contract signed with Russia in the past,” state television quoted Najjar as saying.
Najjar didn’t say when or how many of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile defense systems would be shipped to Iran.
Earlier this year, Russia delivered 29 Tor-M1 air defense missile systems to Iran under a $700 million contract signed in December 2005.

Wasn’t that Syrian Air Defense System based on S-300 and Tor-M1 that the IDF spoofed a couple of months ago when they wrecked the Syrians’ Nukes-that-really-weren’t-there-at-all?
Sure were a load of Russian jockstraps littering the area after that.....
I was thinking the same thing myself.
The Russians had a bad habit in the past of screwing over their client states.
Like putting sand and trash in the hulls of the T-72’s they sold to Iraq to make weight instead of the reactive armor hey were supposed to have.
Sounds like they are still engaging in the same type of business practices.
Yes ... not to mention some soiled-Iranian Fruit of the Looms.
We call that a target rich environment.
So do I :)
Where’s Joe McCarthy when we need him:
Resistance by partisan shadow warriors at the Department of State has limited the presidents options and is bringing us dangerously close to a military showdown with Iran, former Bush administration official John Bolton told Newsmax in an exclusive interview.
Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice initially had planned to provide significant aid to the pro-democracy movement in Iran, as a means of giving the president more policy options, Bolton said. But resistance by the State Department bureaucracy crippled the programs and rendered them ineffective.
[T]he outcome has been no overt program of support for democracy and no clandestine program to overthrow the regime, Bolton said.

Much better, Mark Belling for the next two days.
JMHO, but the Russians might get away with stunts like that with the ironmongery, but you don’t have that luxury when you get to electronic systems.....too many self-test/simulation/training systems involved and WAY too many folks running around who have enough tech training to smell rats. Probably be more expense and time involved in setting up a half-a$$ed copy that would fool people than to just send the Full Monty and let the clients do your field testing PLUS increase your bank balance.
Personally, I would bet that the IDF went up against the Syrians’ All Stars and just left them, Iran and the Russians standing around trying to figure out WTH hit ‘em. All of my information about the gentle art of spiking Eastern Bloc Air Defense systems is so out of date it’s ridiculous, but Back in The Day, some of us wanted to change the NATO designators on the Reds’ first line stuff to variations on terms for womens’ underwear. Some of ‘em EXTREMELY profane, even for sailors.
...and I’m very, very certain that nobody in that line of work since then has been content to use my old gear or rest on any laurels.
Good point.
Could it be that there are flaws in their system that they aren’t willing to admit are there?
I kinda miss the old cold war days when our guys used to play the mind games with the other side like what you’re talking about.
Too bad there’s no Hannity thread today.
“I kinda miss the old cold war days when our guys used to play the mind games with the other side....”
I don’t.
Fall off a track and you get a little owie, put a jet into the water at a few hundred knots and you’ll ruin your whole day.
IMHO Jason won’t make it. He lacks that ineffable something that leads people to believe he has depth and understanding of what he is speaking about.
Evidently, Rush sees something in Jason’s abilities, otherwise he wouldn’t tap him so frequently, of late. That being said, I hope that Jason stays with the local gig. He is much needed here in Minnesota.
I’ll be interested to hear what the Milwaukee racist talks about tomorrow.....Immigration?
Are you nuts? Or does Lewis' Economics and legal background confuse you? Jason Lewis is extremely well informed, articulate and more Conservative than Rush.
You seem to know very little about Rush.
He will have to do better in the future. I listened to him on the show and he really wasn’t up to Rush’ standards. And although Rush does end up filtering a lot of FReeper material into his daily spiel, he doesn’t limit to just our stuff.
Not once did this Lewis guy note that the Republican candidate field is exceedingly diverse when it comes to religious background whereas the Dems are ALL modern day Pharisees.
As far as Lewis' "legal background" there are a lot of folks out there with a "legal background". How many tons of federal or state regulations has this guy reviewed, revised and published? How many celebrity prosecutions has he managed? How many times has he defended the poor, the weak, the halt, the lame?
Can he debate both sides of a difficult case simultaneously while dining on baby pigeons and rattlesnake loin?
If you want me to think this guy is impressive, and it involves law, you will have to tell me about it in terms of things that we can look up in law reviews and court decisions.
