Reliving the Florida recount
One of the most highly anticipated political telefilms being released next year is Recount, a fast-paced depiction of the behind-the-scenes drama that took place in Florida during the disputed 2000 Gore-Bush election.
[snip]
Earlier this year, the possibility was raised that this Recount might be swayed and history rewritten because writer Strong and executive producers Paula Weinstein and Sydney Pollack, as well as HBO Films President Colin Callender, are all Democratic supporters.
[snip]
There have been many incarnations of the script, the HBO representative said in response to questions about literary license taken in the film.
Still, HBO expects many of the real-life figures featured in the film will help promote the project once they see a final cut.
Were veterans in doing these projects, said the HBO rep. Weve done our homework.

At the end, 3,000 contested military ballots WERE approved by the court but in the end, they were NOT included in Harris’ final vote tally.
Al Gore brags about winning the Popular Vote, he neglects to mention that his win was 0.51% margin, WELL within the margin of error (especially considering absentee ballots were not all tallied, where it would not have changed results in a state AND when one factors in fraudulent votes). The only way to know for sure if Gore won the popular vote would be a district by district NATIONAL recount.

Bush had better lawyers. While that was undoubtedly important, it sure didn't hurt that they were arguing the right side of the case. :=)

I think the real stars were Joe Klock (represented Katherine Harris at the US Supreme Court and Florida Judge N. Saunders Saul. Klock's argument that whatever instructions there should be must begin in the voting booth (voter responsibility) most swayed the judges, and Sauls ran a no-nonsense courtroom during tbe contest period, which really flummoxed David Boies.

I wonder if the movie will show that the Civil Rights Commission, controlled by Bush hating Liberal Dims and after almost 4 years of investigating, could not turn up one Black person who was disenfranchized or denied their right to vote?
The Commission had completed their investigation, but, purposely kept it quiet until AFTER the 2004 election.

I remember that night very well. I was in work watching the returns on FR and several other sites, they called FLA for Bush. Suddenly a bunch of mind addled people starting calling in, saying that they voted for Pat by mistake in Palm Beach
My wife and I were watching that night as well. A drive-by babe suddenly is standing in the parking lot of a polling station in West Palm Beach reporting this butterfly ballot/Pat Buchanon nonsense. I looked over to my wife and said "how did she get there so quickly?" My suspicions were confirmed when a leak developed in the media somewhere. During the Clinton/Dole election, Clinton's cease and desist order to Palm Beach headquarters almost didn't make it, which was along the lines of: "don't bother, Clintons ahead".

Guess what? Bush won. Every one of them.
Exactly. That's why they couldn't report (admit) that.

Yes. I wonder if they will show the part where SCOTUS unanimously vacates the rulings of SCOFLA. SCOFLA = Scofflaw.

If the lambed over lions and Charlie Wilson can’t make budget, or get into the Top 3 for the debut weekend, who in the world do these producers think is going to be the audience for a paint drier like an election recount?
Eventually they’ll run out of the bankers’ goodwill and quit making this trash when they have to start using their own money. Even so, they won’t have an audience which is — after love of money — their second love. Or maybe I’ve got that reversed. Nah, they love money just a smidge more than they love themselves.
Cash registers and applause. That’s about all they’re after.

Paint drier is right! But on the other hand it may make liberals relive the pain and agony of defeat... and if that’s the case, then it’s okay with me.
