'Today' To Huck On Pakistan Comments: 'Wish You Had a Do-over?'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Could it have been just a couple days ago that Chris Matthews claimed that the media had made a "mascot" out of Mike Huckabee? You wouldn't know it from this morning's Today show.

Weekend host Lester Holt kicked off the show's political segment by implying that among presidential candidates, Huckabee was the big loser in his handling of the Pakistani situation.

LESTER HOLT: The murder of Benazir Bhutto is having a big impact on the presidential race here in this country, where we now stand just five days from the first contest, in Iowa, and it's forcing Republican Mike Huckabee to do a bit of backtracking.

I just read the transcript. I had no idea that Huckabee is a complete clown. Stick him with a fork, he’s done. It may take a week or two, but he’s toast.

Interesting video. It seems that Huckabee and Clinton have several common characteristics besides being from Hope. His comments about the “apologies” statement was very close to a meaning of “is” excuse.

Noq it’s time for Fred to swoop in and grab Huck’s supporters. It’s going to come down to Fred and McCain.

Miss Teen South Carolina must be advising Huckabee in international affairs and using a map:

DES MOINES — Mike Huckabee used the volatile situation in Pakistan Friday to make an argument for building a fence on the American border with Mexico and found himself trying to explain a series of remarks about Pakistanis and their nation.

This clown, along with nut case Paul, McScream, Rudi, Rumnie, all are total embarrassments to the republican party. With these idiots as EXAMPLES of what the republican party is, no wonder people are running from the party as fast as their big ole gas burning SUV’s will take them!!!

A) It’s very difficult for me to believe that McCain could be one of the last ones standing. But, you never know.
B) I want to express my appreciation to the Huckster for opening his ignorant mouth like this a week or so before the Iowa primaries.

Well, I agree about the clown part but as far as Republicans running away from the Republican party, I doubt that as there's no where else to go.

We're still in control of our own destiny here. Conservative Republicans must unite around the most conservative candidate we can get (Fred) and then stay united to defeat the RATS.

I do believe that we’re seeing the beginning of ‘08’s ‘Dean Moment’, with Huck being ripped to shreds as a blame America firster.

I have never seen such an over his head politician like Huckabee rise so fast so inexplicable.

His daily “errors” and 3rd grade understanding of foreign policy is mind boggling.

The bottom line is that this Huckster has done big time damage to Thompson and Huckster’s falling star might fall just after the most damage was done to Thompson.

As an early and still FredHead, I hope not, but the Iowa numbers- still- are baffling for such a lightweight as Huckabee.

Wake up people!

What I don't make a mistake is a mistake of the heart. I know what I believe. I have convictions.

This guy makes me want to puke.

Got that right.

What he first said: "“our sincere concern and apologies for what has happened in Pakistan.”

but not being man enough to admit the faux pas - he then said:

I didn't say "apologies." I said "we need to offer apol-- I mean,"

Along with the convoluted statements re the border and Pakistanis =

This man is an idiot.

WAtch word for the country: One dishonest bone-head out of Hope, Arkansas is more than enough for this country/world.

As stupid as Huckleberry Clown sounds lately, his comments on Pakistan weren't as bad as Bill Richardson's support for forcing democracy on nuclear Pakistan.

Ahhh, it's the business of commentators = to comment.

You'd rather it get largely swept under the rug?

Huckabee has been Mitt’s secret weapon. His advance has fractured the anti-liberal majority of the Republican party, giving Mitt his best chance of winning multiple early primaries so that he looks inevitable.

Huckabee won’t win the nomination, but he might hand it to Mitt.

Oh, how the media love it when they can build up a candidate with great flourish, then take him down in spectacular flames!

(My cynical self believes the process is undertaken -- consciously or unconsciouly -- with the aim of selling more papers and attracting more viewers.)

As regards the matter at hand, it seems that a big difference between the "traditional model" and the Huckaberry case is that the Huck was built up with record-breaking speed, then taken down just as rapidly.

[sarc] What fun! [/sarc]
