There could be some discord during the Tournament of Roses Parade as demonstrators promise to raise issues during the holiday spectacle that has been going on for more than a century. Human rights advocates plan to protest a float honoring the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and anti-war activists, including "Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan, intend to rally for peace.

The theme of this year's New Year's Day parade is "Passport to the World's Celebrations." It will feature 46 floats, 21 marching bands and 18 equestrian units...

Let the Left make asses of themselves. I hope the World Workers Party and other communist groups get air time.

I'll bet it gets nasty.....maybe dangerous.

The rage and the viciousness of the leftist crazies in this country increases every day as we get closer to the primary and general elections.

Your brother-in-law is going to have an experience he’ll never forget, marching in the Rose Parade. I marched in the 1987 parade with my H.S. band and it’s quite amazing and tiring. It’s a five mile route. I fell near the end of it after tripping on a street reflector.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Sheehan tasered several times on national TV, just for the entertainment value, you understand. /sarc

No /sarc tag necessary....It would be extremely humorous:

Cindy Sheehag: “Don’t tase me bro!”
Pasadena Cop: BBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTT!
Cindy Sheehag: “OOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!”

Don’t tase me bro...don’t tase me bro!!!!!

Forget the tazers or mace; I would MUCH rather see about 50,000 highly irritated spectators rise up and beat the living hell out of them.

Just call it a mass exorcism. ;)

LOL... It’s interesting that they use the word ‘passport’ when many of the people who grow the flowers and decorate the floats do not have one when entering the US.

I don’t know about the actual growing of the flowers, but those of us who were there this week decorating the floats were all-American (Lutherans, Oddfellows, and other volunteer groups). Decorating the floats is a real experience. Afterwards you forget how tedious it is, cutting up tiny petals for hours on end, and volunteer the next year!

There is a significant chance that the next Dem convention will have antiwar protest, a spit ticket, etc.

That will go nicely with the spit-ball defense budget they would propose, wouldn't it?

I know what you mean, I marched it in Jan 1980 as a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band. And regarding you tripping - it could have been worse if you know what I mean - many horses in the parade.

Dunno about the growers but the overwhelming number of float decorators are high school aged kids typically there with church groups, Kiwanis, etc. It is far from what you’d call a haven for illegal aliens.

“These “human rights advocates” (total misnomer) are all about drawing attention to themselves. They could care less about their “causes.” They exist only to excuse their “hey, look at me” childishness.”

My thoughts exactly, especially when their selfish grandstanding is planned for the Rose Parade - an event which is as carefully apolitical as one can possibly be.
