If there is anything Governor Mitt Romney can count on to be his legacy, it is that he is the Governor of the first state possibly (at this time) to approve "gay marriage". I am sure that is a reputation he just does not want; however, he has no choice.
Recently, Romney wrote in the Wall Street Journal a “how to” of sorts to other governors and legislators on how not to have the same legacy. It is an ominous warning that is too late for him. Yet, he is not entirely faultless in this case.
It became clear as the Crisis in the Church came about that there were several agendas behind the scenes here in Boston. "Gay marriage" was one; the green light for government supported embryonic, stem cell research was another. Silencing the Church and bringing down Cardinal Law were essential to make those agendas realities. You have read my accounts of the harassment and persecution suffered by innocent Catholics seeking to attend mass on Sunday. During that whole experience no politician had the courage to stand up to this anti-Catholicism. Yet, Romney went several steps further than just remaining silent during the whole ordeal suffered by his own Catholic constituents.

Wow. It is well worth reading the entire column.
Romney is such a weasel....
Earlier today somebody attacked me because I posted an endorsement that actually happened on December 13, 2007.
At least I didn’t go all the way back to 2004 to find something to post.
But at least it doesn’t appear that this was posted before :-)
Effective opposition research requires seeing what a candidate said and did, oh, three or four years ago. That way we can determine the veracity of what that candidate says NOW and compare.
“Sorry, but this is pretty lame reporting. I remember clearly that Romney fought this thing, and fought hard against it.”
I’m glad you stood up to this smear. Thank you!
I'd love to see the evidence of that. Please provide me the links showing Romney's public statements and actions.![]() |
What a joke. Romney fought tooth and nail against gay marriage.
This article is nothing more than a smear.
For the record, I’m not a Romney supporter, but a smear is a smear.
You can take the time to look it up if you like.
BTW....I'm not a Romney supporter, so I don't have a dog in this fight, just a pretty clear memory of when it happened.
Anybody want to take bets AGAINST Father Robert Carr being a registered Democrat and a life long, “social and economic justice,” liberal?
You obviously did not read the article because it had nothing to do with whether Willard fought gay marriage or not...thats another discussion...it had to do with his failing in his duties to protect the rights of innocent Catholics.![]() |
Anybody want to take bets AGAINST Father Carr being a registered Democrat... Again you have failed to read the article because the author rails against liberal Republicans Weld and Celluci. |
Well I remember that he did nothing to protect innocent Catholics from having their rights violated and I provided evidence of that claim. I can claim just about anything from memory, but unless I can show evidence its a pretty worthless claim.![]() |
Who are you supporting btw?
Fred/Duncan...the only two conservatives in the race.![]() |
I have searched and find nothing to back up your claims.![]() |
I think.....*hoping*.....Fred still has a chance here.
This priest wrote several other articles at around the same time, in which he also blames other Massachusetts officials, not just Romney:
“Finally, may I add that to this day no candidate or elected politician from any party has denounced the actions of the protesters against innocent Catholic parishioners in and out of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross from 2002-2004.”

“What did the elected officials say about all this? They said nothing. The Mayor said nothing, The Governor said nothing; the Senators and Representatives said nothing; they all said nothing.”
http://www.catholic.org/featured/headline.php?ID=554
This is all very troubling because it shows that when he was governor Mitt Romney calculated everything he did based on what was to his political advantage vice what was right and correct. Clintonesque.![]() |
