I am currently listening to 97.1 FM in St. Louis, as I spend some time on FR. As is usual this time of the year, we are getting all “best of” radio shows. Right now I am listening to the Monica Crowley show. And imagine this, her “best of” show is the one were she is flipping out on Fred’s announcement that he was running for President. Yes, her “best of” show is months and months old, and a total slam on Fred.
Wonder who decided to run this particular show days before Iowa votes? Thankfully, the only people listening to this are me and....probably nobody.

That's the trick. Romney, Rudy, or McCain get the nomination this might be the first election since I turned 18 that I won't vote in.
Interesting comments by Fred. Either his internal polling is showing something different from publicly available data, or he shouldn’t have raised expectations like this.
However there’s another possiblilty and it maybe he’s setting the stage for an announcement later on if he doesn’t improve a bunch. Hope that isn’t it but we’ll see shortly as there is basically on 3 days left until Iowa does it’s thing.

I watched it in awe. I was floored when he started complimenting myth, and he was beaming.
Astonishingly poor staff work for a Presidential run. Just mind boggling that this was briefed to him as something permissible.
Stating a required result DEVASTATES fund raising. It just destroys it. Donors have heard the sounds of a desperate candidate before. They know what it sounds like. When someone is talking about it being a major accomplishment to come in SECOND, not first but SECOND, those are not the words of a candidate committed to victory.
How can a staff of any skills at all allow something like this?

This is a gamble.. If he can convince his supporter he is going to do quite well, the reasoning is they will come out to support him. But such tactics rarely work.
If the gamble works as usual he will be at the bottom of the pack.
Typically in Iowa it takes a huge ground game to get out the voters on caucus night. Fred does not have a lot of workers so he is trying this tact. It rarely works but at this stage long odds gambles are all that is left.
It is like his final week of TV ads. They are almost always counter productive. By this time the TV viewers are really annoyed about all the TV Ads and tend to vote against the guy who saturates the air waves with political spots in the final week.
But the gamble is that if the spots are especially good and the voters respond as he hopes they might, it could work. But the odds say the spots will be counter productive.
Such advertising campaigns are almost always counter productive as are claims of doing better than expected. But they are a gamble .. if they work, he could be in tall cotton. But the odds are he will be out the race by the time they count the votes in New Hampshire.
I have simply come to the point in my life that I am done supporting a party just because they aren't the "other party".
And that is my choice to make, just as others have the right to their choices.
Pragmatism has taken all principle from the plate. And the foul after taste of pragmatism has destroyed my palate.
I felt he didn’t support Republicans in the 2006 election inorder to get a Democratic Congress in to pass Amnesty.
Recall Tony Snow’s interview election night after Dems won. He obviously appeared happy about it, and stated that now we can pass immigration reform. That was the ‘october surprise’.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Bush administration did the same thing in this election. I sense they want Hillary in, as they can use her influence to get the North American Union done including Amnesty. That’s the ‘fix’.
They just didn’t count on the power of the people this summer stopping the Amnesty. New plans are being lay-ed.
Fred Thompson won’t get any support, he’s against all that junk. GO Fred!

When I was on the tootyfruityrudy threads prior to the bugzapper, the rudybots said the same thing.
The only folks who have an issue with what I write are the ones who disagree with it, so far.
So it’s all about you, eh. You have no qualms about condemning your neighbors and family to life under Hillary, as long as you can jut your jaw out and swagger whilst shouting “I vote my principles! I am through caring about denying power to evil in America! All that matters is that I feel good.”

Fred knows what he is doing, and those behind him know what needs to get done.
