Four days before the Iowa caucuses, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Sunday lashed out at Mitt Romney as desperate, dishonorable and dishonest a notable change in tone that reflects signs Huckabees amazing insurgency has peaked.
Mitt Romney is running a very desperate and, frankly, a dishonest campaign, Huckabee said in Des Moines on NBCs Meet the Press. If you arent being honest in obtaining the job, can we trust you if you get the job?
Appearing after Huckabee, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) backed away from his recent suggestion that he would not run again if he didn't win this time.
An MSNBC-McClatchy Newspapers poll of Iowa out Sunday morning says Huckabees bubble bursts. Romney is at 27 percent, and Huckabee is at 23 percent, with a margin of error of 5 percent.
On Meet the Press, Huckabee declined to repeat his earlier assertion that he would win Iowa. Moderator Tim Russert pressed him on whether it would be a miracle if he won.

Projection.
I was wondering when this was going to start!
“Am not!” “Are too!”
Mike Huckabee is a mean nasty man with no class. A Sunday Christian that throws stones from a very fragile glass house. Has he apologized to GW for calling his foreign policy arrogant and bunker mentality? Has he apologized to Cheney for saying he did not invite him on his hunting trip because he wanted to come back alive? No. This tax raising, terrorist apologist, grande criminal pardoner is no one to say someone else needs to apologize.

Wow! Say what you want, but it took balls for Huckabee of all people to slam somebody on the honesty question. Wow!
Anybody remember the last Baptist we had for a president?

Huck on criminal justice from today:
“Just as he was about to embark on his run, a jogger came up to him and said he was leaning towards voting for him but wanted to know his views about rehabilitating prisoners (he runs a halfway house). Huckabee launched into a three minute explanation of his view that “people who are dangerous” should be locked up, but “people we’re just mad at” should be rehabilitated if possible. The jogger liked his answer, said Huckabee had his vote, and headed off on his run. After asking about ice on the path, Huckabee set out too.”

We put folks in jail because we’re just mad at them.
Huck is the Howard Dean of this election.
Huckabee is correct. Romney has outspent Huckabee and McCain by tens of millions and his candidacy is on the edge. He knows if he loses Iowa and NH, it is over for him. Especially, Iowa. Imagine the story Friday morning if Huckabee wins - all we will hear is how much Romney spent and he loses to a guy spending 1/20th the money. The story will sink him in NH by making him look (correctly) weak. he is desperate and that is why he has went 100% negative.
On the other hand, Huckabee is somewhat desperate as well. He almost has to win Iowa to maintain momentum into SC, where he stands a great chance at winning. If Huckabee loses Iowa, we will hear how he put up a great fight, with little resources, but in the end, fell short. The story Friday morning will read like an obituary. The same thing very much holds true for McCain in NH.
McCain is smart to be back in Iowa to a degree. He knows he will not win, but a third place will look good. More importantly, McCain in Iowa does more damage to Romney than Huckabee. If McCain can pull a couple of percentage points away from Romney, that might be enough to allow Huckabee to win the state. McCain’s big hope in NH is that Huckabee really hurts Romney in Iowa.
This is all very interesting to follow and you do not have to be a fan of any of these three candidates to enjoy the battle. Romney has the money to fight both Huckabee and McCain, but will the voters punish him for going so negative. That we will find out Thursday night.
It was actually Clinton, but why introduce truth into a FR thread.
I bear no ill will of any kind toward ANY Repubican, and am proud of our entire field of candidates, but Mike Huckabee will never be POTUS. You can take that to the bank.
Mitt nailed Huck on pardons. Huck granted 1,033 pardons and commutations and Mitt granted zero. Quite a contrast. Huck can’t argue these facts are lies so he himself looks ridiculous and desperate. Mitt wins this round.
“It was actually Clinton”
As the largest non-Catholic religion in America, and a religion that dominates the conservative south, it isn’t surprising to see Baptists in the presidential mix.

Alternate Universe, come in, this is Earth calling.
Here on Earth, negative campaign ads work.
Message over. Earth out.
We will see on Thursday night. They can also fire up an opponent’s supporters.
Nice that you are such an a-hole with your answer.
I heard Huck this morning on with the Friends on Fox...he played the victim knocking Mitt for having and spending money. When Steve asked him about his dropping numbers, he said that he had the MO for momentum while Mitt had the MO for money. He still gives me the creeps.
