US Recession? Why? Let’s Look At China

Posted on 01/01/2008 6:36:48 AM PST by street_lawyer

So the coming US depression is all about housing? Then we don't have to be concerned that gas prices are taking a big bite out of earnings? Not because the oil companies are gouging, but because Al Gore and other politically correct types who worn that it is Freon, aerosol hairsprays, carbon emissions from internal combustion engines, and coal fired electricity generation plants will return us to the ice age once the ozone layer disappears. As a consequence Americans are denied access to domestic oil reserves, denied safe nuclear technology. The same idiots are not concerned enough about Iran and North Korea to do anything about it. The same idiots are not concerned that China continues to emit more such so-called pollution in a week than the US emits in a year.

"China’s problem has become the world’s problem. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides spewed by China’s coal-fired power plants fall as acid rain on Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo. Much of the particulate pollution over Los Angeles originates in China, according to the Journal of Geophysical Research. " http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/26/world/asia/26china.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

China's success is not due to superior technology, a more abundant labor market, but rather is some evidence that industrial growth requires fewer restrictions imposed by government. Also it is not likely that the media in China is trumpeting warnings of the coming ice age if China does not now begin to insulate its factory buildings to conserve energy, does not install scrubbers in its smoke stacks, reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. Americans know what that sound is like and it is deafening, so much so that they cannot hear the arguments for safe nuclear energy, drilling in the Gulf, and in Alaska.

China has fewer then 200 environmental types in its government while the US has more than 2000.  If that does not signal their lack of commitment to less pollution, then there are many more cogent arguments, but one picture is worth a 1000 words.

More of the MSM’s attempt to drive down the U.S. economy so they can assure the world that Bush destroyed America.

Title should read: As China Roars, Pollution Reaches Deadly Extremes

What is the purpose of changing the title? I read the article and find it quite damning of China's pollution situation. People on FR have been clamoring for this for quite some time. The hypocrisy of condemning the U.S. without attacking China for its pollution has been a real thorn in the side of a lot of people.

Also, I don't see any reference to a U.S. recession in the article.

I'm not certain to whom you are referring. Would you like to elaborate or just be juvenile?

Hopefully you will take the time to explain your position on the use of Nuclear Power for the production of electric power. Is it OK for North Korea and Iran but not for the US?

Okay, I get it now. You were using the NYT story for info. Sorry. I wish you had been a little clearer. Thanks for the link to the NYT article. We have been waiting for that for a long time.

Because we ALL KNOW that the SIZE of government 100% dictates how efficient and effective it is...

I agree I wouldn't trust anyone who would wear such things.

"I don’t want to eat pollution."

I don't care about pollution.

I'm an air conditioned gypsy.

That's my solution.

So you know, I was refering to the author of the article. The fact he tried to delink China’s population from its economic might simply shows his ignorance. He draws the wrong conclusions.
