Don't criticise Islam, says UN
(UK) The Telegraph ^ | 12/31/2007 | Damian Thompson

It didn’t attract much notice, but the General Assembly of the United Nations ended the year by passing a disgusting resolution protecting Islam from criticism of its human rights violations.

Lots of non-Muslims voted for it – a sign that more and more corrupt Third World governments are identifying with the ideology of Islam, even if they don't accept its doctrines.

The resolution goes under the innocuous title "Combating defamation of religions" – but the text singles out "Islam and Muslims in particular". It expresses "deep concern that Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism".

!@%# the U.N. I reserve the right to "criticize" anyone who is hell bent on killing me.

Get us out of the U.N., get it off U.S. soil, dismantle the building and salt the earth so that nothing ever grows there again.

“deep concern that Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism”.

perhaps if islam wasn't FREQUENTLY INVOLVED with human rights violations and terrorism then they wouldn't be FREQUENTLY ASSOCIATED with it!

It expresses "deep concern that Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism".

Well, that's only because in most places where terrorism and human rights violations are running rampant, islam is the predominant religion, and in many cases, the religion of the terrorists and the terrorist state.

So I guess that the premise that islam is "wrongly associated" is a premise that should be dropped.

“...certainly no defence by force of arms...”
Liberals refuse to recognise that freedom’s not free.

“Truth does not triumph; unless it has champions to propound it, unless it has armies to defend it.”

Well stated, agree with you and the writer. Those of the Neville Chamberlain School of Diplomacy apparently must relearn that acquiescing to terror is a loosing proposition. Sooo, here we go again USA, it will be left to us to fight the war of civilizations, perhaps the UK, Australia, Canada will join in, hope so....

thanks, nice post.

If we cannot speak ill of Islam anymore, is it okay if we call the folks at the UN poopyheads?

Luckily, I live in the U.S. and can think for myself. I don’t need Islam or the U.N. to tell me who to criticize.

“deep concern that Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism”.

So...The UN has, in this ridiculous piece of crappola, recognized and acquiesced in Islam’s practices of beheading, amputation of body parts, stoning rape victims, beating women, treating women like property, and remaining violently intolerant of other religions and other peoples’ personal rights?

Just want to make sure I got the ground rules down. At this point, it’s time to get the US out of the UN, push the whole thing over to Europe.

This resolution is absolutely wrong. Weak-kneed liberal types attempting to appease the Islamofascists. I’m reminded of one definition of an appeaser...a person who feed the crocodile, hoping that it will eat him last.

No guts...no glory.

Great article! Mr. Gill should go to the U.N. as we lost John Bolton as our rep, and Mr. Gill’s quote sounds like pure Bolton.

Gee, I guess actually violating human rights so often for so long can lead to some incorrect accusations. But it's like the whore complaining that someone who calls her a whore is besmirching her character by doing so.

Sink that vile den of inequity into the East River and be done with it! It galls me no end that a single dime of US taxpayer money goes to the fraud that is the UN.

If it is truly a religion and not a political system of a conquering warlord, then the UN must also ban the phrases “muslim lands”, “Islamic Law”, “Sharia Law”, and “kufir”. The UN must also enforce the protection of freedom of religion in Islamic supremacist nations like Saudi Arabia which has a death penalty for non-muslims who dare to enter some cities.

Mr. Solo, you asked the pertinent question amidst all the comments. HOW DID THE U.S. VOTE ON THIS APPEASEMENT RESOLUTION?

I don't have the faintest idea how to look up roll calls pertaining to individual U.N. "legislation". Maybe we're not supposed to know.

Kudos to the first person who can post here how Condi and the Arab Street State Department voted on behalf of our complacent country. Please ping Napoleon and myself if you unearth this information with source.
