A ‘barf alert’ for this piece would be woefully inadequate.

Thus proving that “feminism” is not about promoting and protecting women,

but simply about destroying the Western traditional Culture.

Contrast this with the chivalry of medieval Europe, where a woman was a person of incredible value to be honored and defended to the death. And then remember that our modern academics tell us that the Crusaders were evil invaders, and the Muslims enlightened victims of Western oppression.

“...To be fair it took well over 1,000 years after Jesus for these types of attitudes to go away in Christian areas.”

Christians always had scripture with the most positive portrayals of women; Ruth, Ester, Mary, and Christ’s loving admonition of the woman sinner. Show me in 400 AD nominally Christian Rome where women were treated as bad as they are in Yemen today.

In my experience, the “few nice places” in such countries were the narrow areas, museums, hotels, restaurants, in which Western standards were being applied and enforced. The rest was pure hell hole.

1000 years after that women were still subject to their husbands or older brothers. They didn’t get to vote in most countries for well over a 1000 years. They couldn’t hold most jobs and in many cases all the property went directly to the son leaving the daughters with nothing except being dependent on the brothers.

Some of the things done to “upity” women in Christian nations have been horrific.

In my lifetime, in my state of Georgia, rights were greatly reduced for women, with the husband being legally the head of household.

“...In my lifetime, in my state of Georgia, rights were greatly reduced for women, with the husband being legally the head of household.”

And this compares to the tradition of female circumcision, honor killings, and beatings?

My mother (b. 1916) grew up in rural Arkansas and her only memory of KKK activity concerned Klan threats to White men who mistreated their wives.

Someone asked in another thread a few days ago about moving to a foreign country, I guess for retirement. I’ve been around the world (literally) a few times and after 44 countries, I can say that Dorthy said it the best, “There’s no place like home!”

Home is the United States (and while I’m partial to visiting Jamaica and LOVE Ireland — which is where many of my ancestors are from, and Scotland) and I won’t be moving anywhere, nor ever giving advice to move elsewhere other than the US.

I guess few people notice that more people are trying to GET in, than to get OUT!

I’d say we have a nice place here, and we shouldn’t let some religious fanatics from Islam screw it up.

My statement was that many of these same attitudes persisted in Christian nations for more than a 1,000 years after Christ.

that is clearly correct - Women were essentially property in England, for example, unable to hold a job, earn money, vote, keep money, go to university etc.

By the way, the Klan did a lot more than “stand up for white women.”

We don’t have to deny our past to be critical of Islam today.

I am reminded of the story (fable?) about the British governor of an area of India who was approached by some of the local leaders and told of the necessity to forcibly burn alive the widows of those local men who recently died.

They told him that this was a very important local custom. That it was humane as the women could not support themselves and a quick death was better than suffering in poverty and hunger for months.

According to the story the governor told the local leaders that his country also had a custom that he was going to follow in such matters. The British custom was that anyone who kills women, is hanged. He told the local leaders that if they want their customs followed, they would certainly not object to his following his customs.

Islam needs a reformation and/or to be held to the standards of a civilized world, where individuals have certain basic rights and freedoms.

If we excuse this behavior as "religion" or allow it in the name of religious freedom, we soon will have Mexican American's performing human sacrifices in the name of the Aztec religion or certain Pacific Islanders performing cannibalism in the name of religious tradition.

There are limits to what civilization will allow and Islam has crossed those lines in many areas. Those good citizens of Mass. gave up burning witches a long time ago. It is time for Islam to give up honor killings and give up on physical abuse of women.

It actually took longer than 1000 years in some areas.

Shorter in the middle east. Especially when most Arabs were Christians BM (Before Mohammed).

I don’t think fathers or brothers would undertake such behavior unless there was a reason for it. She made me kill her, yeah right.

“...beating the wife slightly...”!

Reminds me of a joke:

Guy #1: “Hey, have you heard about that new place, “Tempura House?”

Guy #2: “No, what is it?”

Guy #1: “It’s a shelter for lightly-battered women.”

Sorry.
