You said — “Because if what I’ve seen so far is reflective of Fred’s type of supporters, then I don’t really know if I want to align with him.”

Gotcha there... I can see it clearly on this board. You might as well add the word “rabid” when you say “Thompson”... (when it comes to those so-called “supporters”).... LOL...

Does it matter if I “bought it” or not.
I know what Fred means by it, but I still think it’s the wrong message, because it’s the main reason people aren’t voting for him. If the candidate isn’t excited about running then how does he expect anyone else to be?

If reports are right and it was Romney’s people who started the “Fred will drop out after Iowa” smear then they have every right to have been negative about Romney’s people.

That being said, I support Fred but have nothing against Gov. Romney and will support him if he is the nominee wholeheartedly.

Fred should be energized for placing in a state that is organizational and working off a shoestring budget. Everyone else has been campaigning for a year or more. Folks will give him a serious look now that they realize he has the fire.

You said — “All I can say is that feelings have run hot - on both sides. But you ought to judge each candidate on the basis of their histories, positions, abilities and character. Not their supporters’.”

Good thing you said that, or I would have to disqualify Thompson on the basis of one supporter... LOL...

Excited enough to vote for them, one would think...

#2 is not possible. Democrats will crawl over broken glass against the Huckster, whom they perceive as Bush III (and real conservatives feel is far worse than Bush III, at least Bush was honest).

Thompson’s strategy of getting out there and working the common folks in their places of gathering has not only paid off...it upheld his faith that presenting his case on the personal level to enough people would win the day while his opponents depended on their “machines” and media manipulators to carry their campaigns.

I don’t know about the rest of the country but we here in the South hold a politician to his word when he shakes your hand - and don’t forget it. Fred may have been wasting a lot of handshakes on people in Iowa who don’t understand the concept that he means what he says - but those who “get it” are totally behind him.

With the Huckster winning in IA and McCain probably winning in NH, Fred's message should be that he needs to stick around so there's at least one conservative in the race. Voters aren't convinced that Mitt is. Fred needs to really up the ante in SC and hope he gets some help from Rush and others in talk radio who have serious issues with Huck and McCain and who I think will do what they can to stop either of them from getting the nomination.

Crickets chirping....

Vote your conscience, and vote on the issues not emotion.

If you support a John Kerry clone, I doubt you ever seriously considered voting for a conservative candidate anyway.

So you are going to let the fact that someone on FR hurt your feeling determine who you will vote for?

Fascinating....

I don’t know - Thompson is from the south as well. You could classify me as an evangelical - but I’m a Thompson supporter. I’ve seen Thompson bumper stickers here in town, I’ve seen Obama stickers, Hillary stickers, but have yet to see a Huckabee (or Romney for that matter) sticker.

Just do what I'm doing.....

Write another check to the Romney campaign and send it tomorrow.

Iowa is nice if you win it, but only for a couple weeks of fund raising. Reagan came in 3rd or 4th, if I recall, and frankly speaking, the caucus system and participants in Iowa have always been a bit weird. They have never been a fortune teller for elections, only a media fest with fleeting if any impact longterm.

Bingo. Fred is the man. But I'm hesitant to throw Romney under the bus like some that are being too rabid to think straight.

Huckabee is obviously Thompson's biggest threat and I would rather see Romney weaken Huckabee in New Hampshire and then Fred can pound him in the South.

Given how disrespectful Fred’s guys have been lately to Romney supporters, I probably will end up backing someone else if I switched from Romney during the primary season. We’ll see how they act over the next couple of weeks. Because if what I’ve seen so far is reflective of Fred’s type of supporters, then I don’t really know if I want to align with him.

{sarcasm alert} I am sure Fred is completely responsible for everything said by one of his supporters on an internet forum.{/sarcasm alert}

I think it might be a far better idea to look to see what Fred *himself* is actually saying. You won't be voting for his supporters. This is not in any way meant to be disrespectful, just truthful.
