More than half of the top fundraisers for the 2008 presidential candidates come from just three segments of the U.S. economy: law, finance and real estate, according to a new study of these bundlers.
(snip)
Only a few of the candidates are revealing the names of their bundlers. No candidate has said precisely how much these fundraisers have brought in, because the Federal Election Commission does not require campaigns to disclose their bundlers or the amounts they raise.
Here's a breakdown of the occupations of the bundlers raising money for the major candidates:

Republicans |

Thank You McCain-Feingold!
These occupations have something in common: none of them really produce anything. Our gross national surplus of lawyers is a cancer on the body politic and the economy. Real estate developers are very much involved in buying influence with the govt. to obtain the approvals and infrastructure (roads, sewers, etc.) needed for their projects. No wonder our system is so corrupt, and the opposition of millions to suicidal trade and massive debt is ignored.
All useful, the article is confusing, because about half of the Repub. money comes from "other." That should have been broken down.
Should read "Although useful,..."
I thought those charts were interesting after I saw this piece in the WSJ:

Lender Lobbying Blitz Abetted Mortgage Mess
“Real estate developers are very much involved in buying influence with the govt. to obtain the approvals and infrastructure (roads, sewers, etc.) needed for their projects.”
Developers also need little favors like the Wetlands Act, increasing property taxes and other goodies from the government that tie up land. The average joe can’t get permits to build or pay the property taxes for improvements but developers have the right amount of cash, excuse me influence so they can get the land on the cheap then build in the same swamp and often get the improvements on the cheap. Most sea islands along the SC coast have been built up using this model.
Developers also abuse the intent of USDA Rural Development grant money.
great post.
