REDWOOD CITY, California (AP) -- A former fugitive captured in Colorado has been sentenced to three years in prison -- after a judge rejected his bid to throw out a 16-year-old fraud conviction.

Norman Hsu was convicted of fraud 16 years ago.

Attorneys for disgraced political donor Norman Hsu had asked Judge Stephen Hall to dismiss his 1992 no-contest plea, saying Hsu's right to a speedy trial was violated because authorities were not actively pursuing him during his years as a fugitive.

LOL! Only a bottom feeder could argue that his rights are violated by the police not looking hard enough for him after he fled his sentencing!

Isn’t this the person who was “bundling” donations for the campaign of Herself, the Cold and Joyless? And hadn’t he been doing something similar years ago for the unending campaigns of the “Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001”?

Prey, and it shall be delivered.

What a pathetic argument for aquittal. I can’t believe any lawyer could present such an argument with a straight face. He ought to get three years, too, for bringing such a frivolous claim. (shaking head)

Why wasn’t Hitlery sent off with him? They’d make great prison buddies.

Hello Sue. - If you already know this, my apologies.

In first or second year a law student learns the following mantra. (I’m not kidding)

If you have the Law, beat on the Law.
If you have the facts, beat on the facts.
If you have nothing, beat on the table.

I wonder if this will get 1/100th the attention the Abramoff scandal got...

Yes, it’s a rhetorical question.

Pretty Bizarre!

By the way there are at least two other threads on this...I gave up my search after the system kept giving me Proxy errors....etc.

I think the keyword HSU will show them.

Hsu's indictment has Clinton battling perceptions
Newsday ^ | December 5, 2007 | MARTIN C. EVANS

*********************************

As the race for the White House moved into its final weeks in 1996, Republicans were accusing the campaign of Bill Clinton and Al Gore of unethical fundraising tactics, including Gore's attendance at a fundraiser at a tax-exempt Buddhist temple in California.

Now, as Hillary Rodham Clinton seeks the White House, the indictment yesterday of a former chief fundraiser, Norman Hsu, may see her confront potentially harmful fundraising questions of her own.

"Will this help? Of course not," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Polling Institute at Quinnipiac University, in Hamden, Conn. "You accumulate enough hurts and you have a problem."

In September, Clinton returned $850,000 to Hsu after it was revealed he was a fugitive from a prison sentence following a ponzi scheme conviction.

In October, she returned more campaign cash after it was revealed her campaign took in some 150 donations of between $500 and $2,000 each from Chinatown dishwashers and street vendors - many could not be located or denied making donations.

Hsu was indicted yesterday on 15 counts of defrauding investors of at least $20 million, and of violating campaign finance laws by donating to candidates in other people's names.

Clinton spokesman Blake Zeff refused to comment. Prosecutors said there is no indication the Clinton campaign knew Hsu may have been operating illegally.
