Fred Thompson Announces Endorsement of Right to Life of Wyoming
Standard Newswire ^ | 4-Jan-07 | Unknown

Posted on 01/04/2008 4:22:53 PM PST by Jay777

"We're proud to endorse Senator Thompson for president because he has a long track record of supporting pro-life principles," stated Steven Ertelt, President of Right to Life of Wyoming. "Senator Thompson had a 100% pro-life voting record during his tenure in Congress. Today, he supports overturning the Roe v Wade decision which allowed for unlimited abortions, he opposes euthanasia, and he opposes forcing taxpayers to fund scientific research that requires the destruction of human life."

Right to Life of Wyoming (RTLW) is the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee which has endorsed Senator Thompson for President, along with 13 other state affiliates.

"I'm blessed and honored to have the endorsement of the Right to Life of Wyoming for President of the United States," said Senator Thompson. "Thirteen right to life organizations from coast to coast have voted to endorse my candidacy, and more likely will, because they know I have stood with them yesterday, I stand with them today, and will stand with them tomorrow. They know I have the ability to win this election. They know I believe in the sanctity of life and as President I will do all that I can do to protect life."

Actually, I read after I posted to you, that there have not been any polls taken in Wyoming. Their caucus is rather wierd but word is that Fred and Romney are leading in Wyoming. Tomorrow we will see. Also read that Wyoming actually has more delegates than New Hampshire. GO FRED!

Anyone know if there will be “live” results from Wyoming as well?

The following indicates they will have totals as they come in from the County Conventions.

www.wygop.org

Wyoming is a caucus state and not like any I’ve read about. But then I’m not that familiar with caucus operations. It does seem to me that their procedure is the height of good ol’ boy political back patting.

Tomorrows county conventions as I understand what little I’ve read are schedule to occur at various time throughout the day [some as early as 8am and others as late as 5pm]. The counties are aligned in pairs, one county electing the national convention delegate and the other electing the alternate with the delegate/alternate reversed for the next election cycle.. One county elects both. There will be selected 12 delegates and 12 alternates.

The county conventions taking place tomorrow are attended by three representatives from each precinct within that county which were selected some time back at the precinct event. In all total there will be some 980 people divided among the various county conventions that will make the selections.... The following link gives a little info about the process:
http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/WY-R.phtml

I may have misrepresented some of the process and if so I’m sure someone will correct it. In all I guess it works for Wyoming but I’d have to reserve judgement about it until I have a more indepth understanding. First glance to me looks like a lot of back scratching among the party regulars.

Yes, this link says that Wyoming has 14 delegates and New Hampshire has 12.

I gues is John McCain was doing better in Wyoming we'd hear more about it.

Both these interviews were done today. Once anyone listens to Neil Cavuto’s interview with Fred they would see the real conservative! I dare anyone to listen to this video and then try to show how any other Republican candidate is MORE conservative than Fred Thompson! Fred Thompson is the man we need in the White House! GO FRED!

Wonder if Mary Cheney’s been to Wyoming? Remember early on how she came out for Fred?

Also, I’d love to see someone like Ed Gillespie join Fred’s team. He needs a campaign manager who can shake things up a bit and get the mojo going a bit faster.

I appreciate it, and have respect for your candidate and his views. That said, I'm not sure that posting passes this particular test. Contrast with this, noting primary sponsor.

Other concerns about your candidate: globalism vs. American sovereignty and the related issue of a China with obvious military ambitions, positive work for immigration reform (like this), and campaign finance reform. I understand the enthusiasm for a candidate with a presence on the silver screen but do sense, in observing the evolution of opinion over the last eight months, that some have taken that fame and tried to mold a Fred in their own image. I pray that, if you are successful, you are not ultimately disappointed.

Please do not place me in the category of "basher" since I have striven for a reputation of respectfulness. Again, thank you for the information.

Well it might not be fair to judge Fred on his lack of support for that bill since it wasn’t before the Senate when he was a Senator, but I think I understand the point you are trying to make. My point, however, is that Fred not only voted his conscience but he also spoke about it on numerous occasions.

I cannot spend the time right now to enumerate Fred’s positions on each of the issues you listed, but I encourage you to visit www.Fred08.com and read “Fred on the issues”. That might give you a few answers.

In conclusion, I appreciate your candor and genuine engagement in civil discussion. It’s nice to be able to have an adult discussion occasionally, eh?

You are right. JERI is a very articulate and bright woman. FRED should have no reason to put her out front in certain areas. JERI will make a beautiful and gracious First Lady!

FRED THOMPSON is the ONLY true Conservative with a magnificent opportunity to WIN the White House for WE THE PEOPLE!

There’s a youtube video from 1994 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5a_Fpu_8KE that refutes any support for abortion - see number 30 for an explanation about the form.

The Senator does not believe in abortion, but sees a different approach to ending it - as coming from the States, after Roe v. Wade is overturned..

After Roe is overturned States will have to address abortion as they already do in the case of other cases of humans killing humans: decide between criminal and non-criminal. Neighboring States may have different definitions of First Degree murder and manslaughter. They have different laws about home defense and deaths and injuries from protecting life and property.

The States will have to consider those who hold firmly to the “rape and incest” exceptions and the cases where there is a risk to health, but not to life. They will have to satisfy the people who weren’t happy with South Dakota’s ban on abortion because it had these exceptions and allowed the morning after pill. They will also have to decide how to handle in vitro fertilization and the embryos created outside the body.

Sure, you’re trying to be “respectful” by denigrating our support for Thompson as “enthusiasm for a candidate with a presence on the silver screen.”

From Senator Thompson’s senate website:

“(Senator Thompson does not) believe that the United States should cede any of our sovereign rights as a nation to multilateral institutions. At no time should international institutions be given the authority to tax American citizens, control U.S. soldiers outside our chain of command, prosecute Americans soldiers and citizens, or make laws governing the American people.

Senator Thompson believes our adherence to these principles and priorities will ensure that the United States remains free, strong, and prosperous — a beacon of hope and model for all, and the undisputed leader of the free world.

April 11, 2001
SENATOR THOMPSON’S STATEMENT ON FUTURE OF U.S. RELATIONSHIP WITH CHINA

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) today issued the following statement regarding the future of the United States’ relationship with the Peoples’ Republic of China in light of their detention of 24 U.S. servicemen and women for 11 days:

“Hopefully, this will cause us to step back and take a realistic look at our relationship with China in a way that should have been done before this incident.

“Our policies in the past have led the Chinese to believe that we are so dependent on our trade relationship that there are no consequences for their bad behavior.

“Clearly, there has to be consequences for their unlawful detaining of our crew and for such things as their continued proliferation activities. Their actions are making the world a more dangerous place.

“And we have to look at our export policies. The Senate is going to be debating the Export Administration Act, which involves sensitive high tech equipment going to China. That’s going to be a contentious debate. It’s about balancing trade and national security.”

http://web.archive.org/web/20020822205408/thompson.senate.gov/press/2001/releases/pr041101.html

****

Senator Thompson believes that the United States has a unique role in the world given our economic prosperity, military power, and the strength of our principles, democratic ideals, and values. He believes the United States should be active in promoting the concepts of free trade and open markets, holding other countries responsible for their actions and affairs, yet acting firmly and clearly where our national interests and values are at stake.

As Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee, Senator Thompson held more than a dozen hearings on important national security issues, including the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons) and missile technology and the relaxation of export controls and sensitive “dual use” items.

Last year, he introduced the China Nonproliferation Act, which confronts proliferation by “key supplier” countries like China and Russia to rogue nations like Iran, Iraq, and Libya. This is a dangerous problem that threatens our nation’s security and important interests. The bill requires an annual review of these countries’ proliferation activities, establishes clear standards, reasonable penalties, adequate presidential waivers, congressional oversight, and much-needed transparency.

In September, Thompson was successful in bringing the measure to the floor during the debate on Permanent Normal Trade Status for China. The debate on the Thompson amendment provided the Senator with a valuable opportunity to bring the proliferation issue to the forefront and highlight the problem for his colleagues and the nation. In the coming year, Thompson will continue his efforts to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Doubt it. Media is not interested in "fly-over country". And they're certainly not interested in anything that helps Fred.

I do disagree with your candidate on some things, and am not afraid to say so. I am supporting military veteran and ranking House Armed Services Committee member Duncan Hunter - with my time, my money, and my voice.

I do not denigrate you for supporting Fred Thompson, but do not hesitate to question him on some matters - just as I have with Romney, Huckabee, McCain, and (especially) Giuliani. Never, to my recollection, have I referred to those other men using derogatory names, and I went out of my way to acknowledge Giuliani's stellar post-9/11 leadership even though I oppose most of what he stands for.

It is my hope that you, likewise, would show respect for those with whom you disagree (e.g. calling them "gnats").
