LIMA, Ohio — Darla Jennings walked through the streets of south Lima last night sobbing as hundreds of people behind her called for justice after the shooting of her daughter, who was killed by police as she held her baby. Tarika Wilson, 26, was shot and her 1-year-old son was wounded when Lima police conducted a drug raid on their home Friday night, prompting members of the black community to organize a candlelight vigil and demand answers from police. "They shot my daughter and her baby," Ms. Jennings said through tears while being consoled by other family members.

sweat that envelops them as they go through withdrawal

Prenatally drug -exposed newborns cry more frequently than unexposed babies. This ‘at-risk’ baby suffering though moderate to severe withdrawal, was hard to console. Typically, these children, when held, tend to arch their backs, pull away and cry until they exhaust themselves. Experts note that these behaviors interfere with child-parent bonding. “The worst problem in working with these babies is that they have the jitters,” says Nancy Shatz, a San Francisco General nurse who works extensively with prenatally drug-exposed newborns. “They cry because they are in pain and suffering,” she observes. “They don’t even like to be touched.”

cocaine-exposed children are unable to deal with many different stimuli at once and tend to act out aggressively or withdraw completely when overstimulated

You have a huge problem with authority it seems (ninjas). Yes, thank God someone wants to save the child because apparently the ‘mother’ didn’t care enough to do it.

At the age of 26 she already had six children with how many sperm donors I guess doesn't matter to you (the taxpayer)? It matters to me when I am helping to fund them.

If they aren't responsible enough to stay away from drugs I doubt they are responsible enough to raise children (drug addicted ones at that). So, we are just supposed to ignore the problem?

Tell that to this child and the taxpayers who pay the bills.

Tell them what? Anyone that has any sense of care or compassion hates to see tragedies like this. Where we disagree is on how to solve the problem.

I remember I think it was somewhere in the South they were passing laws to test pregnant mothers in hospitals to see if they were using crack while pregnant. The prosecutors wanted to arrest the mothers, put them in jail until the child was born, and then take away the child. The courts struck it down. The hospitals could do it but could not share information to the police. That is the current state of the law.

The current laws allow unwed mothers to collect welfare and that has greatly fueled the problems in the inner city. That is the law, and these women are obeying it.

Most of the current problems we have in this country have been created by our government and the laws that they pass.

I didn’t say having drugs justified her getting killed/
Having drugs brought the cops to the home.
We don’t know the particulars other than that.
She shouldn’t have allowed drugs in to her home with the kids there.

YOu are correct. The cops should have waited until the perp was outside the home and just picked him up.
We do not yet know the circumstances surrounding the killing.
We do know the lady allowed drugs in to her home and that prompted the arrival of the oops.
What did she do? What did the cops do?

I agree that the swat teams are amped up and have little common sense when they arrive on a scene.
The cops should have observed then picked up the perp instead of rushing the home.
We do not know the particulars surrounding the shooting. We do know the lady allowed drugs in to her home with the kids there. We do not know what she did or what casued the cops to react.
Did she deserve to die? No.

Loads of folks make their living off preying upon folks busted for drugs.
Lawyers, drug counselors, probation officers, erc.etc. That is the reason drugs like marijuana are still illegal.
Also do you want crazies driving on crack? Or heroin?

WE don’t know the facts surrounding the shooting.
What did she do that prompted the shooting, if anything?

Yes you are exactly right when saying the cops should not have been there in the first place. Not for drugs. But they were.
And as things stand the cops came because they wanted to play military force and bust drug dealers.
The cops should have surveyed the folks and picked them up outside the home.
Seems every two bit city, berg, or govt agency nowadays have swat teams just itching to go bust in doors. That is not necessary.

It might not have been the best idea to storm the house when they knew infants were there?

I don’t like it, and I’m pretty darn supportive of the police.

If you know the dealer's name and address, why not bust him at the grocery store? Or the strip club? Or the pool hall? No reason whatsoever to go into his house, onto his territory, to arrest him.

We don’t know the actions prompting the shooting.
We do know why the cops arrived.
Should she have been killed? Probably not but do we know if she had a gun or some other weapon?
Should the cops been there to begin with? Probably not, they could have picked the perps up on the street which is to say the swat team had little business being there to begin with.
Again though, the cops were there legally. She was part of the reason they came in the first place.
Had she not been part of the original problem she’d not be dead.

So, we are just supposed to ignore the problem?

no, we should get more BANG for our swat buck and just knock down every door and shoot all mothers and 'sperm donors' and award the stake a new army of little kaiser's foster-spawn.

to make it fair, we should only target those people that dont tow the line of every nanny 'law' on the books, that way when we get rid of all those evil parents we can finally say 'its for the children'...

"I didn’t see anything in the article about anyone resisting arrest or raising a weapon to the police."

Me neither. Can we safely assume that didn't happen?

"You’d think cops who could plan a nighttime dynamic entry raid could snag a stupid crackhead off the street, wouldn’t you?"

And arrest him for what? Being a stupid crackhead?

Phew! I thought I was strict on enforcing the law.

She was part of the reason they came in the first place.

the only part she played was being there when they showed up. maybe you dont realize it, but youve repeatedly made the opposite case by stating...

Should the cops been there to begin with? Probably not

A bunch of suits pass a bunch of un-Constitutional bs and call it 'Law'. they send in the goon to enforce such, and they hit the wrong house or kill the wrong people and its justified that the victim is the instigator because of resistance to siad un-Constitutional law.

If it helps you sleep at night, fine, but remember that eventually they will get around to outlawing whatever human weakness you have. When french fries are outlawed will you defend this insanity still ???
