Crematorium to keep mourners warm by burning bodies of loved ones

Heat created by burning the dead at crematoria could be used to keep mourners warm under plans to make funerals more environmentally-friendly.
Instead of letting the gases emitted by cremation escape into the atmosphere, councils want to use them to heat radiators or even generate electricity.
They admit some might find the idea of being kept warm by the remains of their loved-ones macabre.
But there are thought to be no religious objections, and ever-tighter controls on pollution mean such systems could become commonplace.

Yes, but you were protecting me and my family, and for that I am grateful—no joke.
Chairborne Ranger—they have a patch for that? Sounds like a lot of us here on FR!

The reality is that it takes a large amount of fuel to incinerate a body since the body is mostly water.
If they really were concerned about “greenhouse gases”, they would not incinerate at all.

Heh...that’s exactly my problem. And I don’t have anyone to nag me.
I should hire a nag.

I have known some uber enviros (I had classes with a few in undergrad). Many of them were obsessed with ending the tyranny of man and spoke warmly of the end of the human race. Tacky me, I once asked why they didnt lead by example...I would have volunteered to help them on their way...

Simply not practical. The energy recovered from burning a single human body would not be worth it. The vast majority of the heat produced would still come from the natural gas used to heat the oven. The mechanics required to recover that energy would probably require significant investment by the funeral home and would take many years to recover if ever.

"Pumping bodies full of chemicals to preserve them is not my idea. When I die, dump me in a cheap wooden box, dump me in the ground
alas, he is dead."I would prefer to be cremated and have my ashes scattered by my family members someplace nice to help give them closure but I agree with your sentiments.

It was cathartic. Regardless of the gallows humour, the story remains creepy.
