Plea To NH Voters: "Don't Take Bill's Wife--PLEASE!"
Boston Herald ^ | January 8, 2008 | Michael Graham

But on this New Hampshire primary day, I write to plead the case of an often overlooked special interest group - a group of Americans more dependent on government than an unemployed ethanol farmer on Medicaid.

I’m talking, of course, about comedy writers.

Columnists, cartoonists and comics are all asking - no, begging - the voters of New Hampshire:

Don’t take Bill’s wife - please!

Matt Drudge quoted a “top campaign insider” saying Hillary “doesn’t want the Clinton brand damaged with back-to-back defeats. If she gets too badly embarrassed, it will really harm her.”

Setting aside the question of whether the woman who chose to stay married to Bill can be embarrassed, the story is still just a rumor - a rumor denied by the Clinton campaign. But with her poll numbers dropping faster than (insert joke about her husband’s pants here), a double-digit defeat to Barack Obama could end her campaign before the Patriots [team stats] even start the playoffs

Hillary? Out of the presidential race? In January?

But we haven’t even gotten to the thigh jokes yet!

Before entering that ballot box today, every New Hampshire voter should stop and think of all the Grade-A comedy material that could be lost if Hillary gets sent home. Filegate, Travelgate, vast right-wing conspiracies and her “I’m forgainst it!” answer on driver’s licenses for illegals - the list is almost endless.

And worse, Democratic voters could replace Hillary the Hilarious with Obama the Earnest, a guy who’s pleasant enough but hardly inspires gales of laughter.

For example, during this weekend’s debate when Obama gave credit for improvements in Iraq to the Democratic takeover of Congress in 2006, rational people just rolled their eyes over yet another triumph of politics over reality. But when Hillary...

As lovely as that prospect is, it might not be the best result for our side. We need dems to be fighting each other.

Can anyone tell me how liberal or conservative the Boston Globe is?
That would say a lot if this is a liberal rag and still makes fun of Mrs. Clinton.
Here’s hoping she becomes the butt of jokes similar to Dukakis.

Setting aside the question of whether the woman who chose to stay married to Bill can be embarrassed, ...

Ya gotta love that one.

Pravda sends them hate mail for being too far left.

If they are a lefty paper and they are savaging Mrs. Clinton then she really is in trouble.
Thanks.

This is from the Herald, not the Globe. It's the relatively conservative Boston paper.

Not fair. New Hampshire votes, but we all have to live with it. I think that we Floridians should be permitted to vote in the New Hampshire primary.

I believe we should all be supporting Hillary right now. She will be much easier opponent for whoever gets the republican nomination.

The only reason the left is beating her up is that they don’t think she can win.

You are most probably right.
But it is awful nice to see the Clintons getting trashed.

I quite enjoyed the term “forgainst”. It is new to me. It would have been most useful during Thurston Howell III’s presidential campaign in ‘04.
