Voter-Fraud Showdown
Oopinion Journal ^ | 09 jan 08

Posted on 01/09/2008 7:17:10 AM PST by rellimpank

Supporters and critics of Indiana's law requiring voters to show a photo ID at the polls square off in oral arguments before the Supreme Court today. The heated rhetoric surrounding the case lays bare the ideological conflict of visions raging over efforts to improve election integrity.

Supporters say photo ID laws simply extend rules that require everyone to show such ID to travel, enter federal office buildings or pick up a government check. An honor system for voting, in their view, invites potential fraud. That's because many voting rolls are stuffed with the names of dead people and duplicate registrations--as recent scandals in Washington state and Missouri involving the activist group ACORN attest.

Opponents say photo ID laws block poor, minority and elderly voters who lack ID from voting, and all in the name of combating a largely mythical problem of voter fraud.

Wasn’t it Hillary who spoke in favor of NOT showing an ID at the polls some weeks back?

Does the State of Indiana require photo drivers license's? If so, just simply show it when you go vote. Sounds simple enough to me. Even the poor can afford a driver license or state issued ID card if one does not drive.

Just an excuse to get more dead dims to the polls. Why am I not surprised?

There's no standing in this case ...therefore .....the ACLU etal will lose.

Yes, Yes....I know the Communists (Steven's, Souter , Ginsburg and Breyer) on the Supreme court will latch on to some lame excuse to ramble on about but I just don't see how they can overturning their early ruling regarding Arizona's voter I.D. law with this ruling which appears on its face to be very similar to Arizona's.

The long and short of it.....The ACLU, etal are going to litigate each and every one of these to slow down our ability as states to prevent the voter fraud that has lead to so many victories for the candidates that the ACLU and their ilk support.

That’s how Ohio deals with voter fraud.....but that’s why these dimrat j@ck@sses are trying so hard to get motor voter pushed through. It sure makes it easier for “live” bodies without citizenship to vote illegally.

A photo ID is necessary to being a responsible member of the community. If a political party truly wanted their followers to be good citizens, they would encourage them to get photo IDs in order to do the dozens of ordinary things that require them, such as fly, cash checks, use a credit card in certain places, rent cars, etc. The photo ID is truly just a voter fraud ruse for the Dems. If they really cared about their constituency, they would encourage them to get photo id’s.

there are also PROVISIONAL ballots for those without ID, it is not ID or go home as the DBM would misreport.

That silly “the poor and minorities don’t have ID cards” argument can be disposed of by having states issue photo ID cards exclusively for voting. If states can issue driver’s licenses, and people know that they need to have them on them if they are going to drive, why not issue electoral ID cards that people know they need to take with them to the polls?

Obama would be Jackson and Sharpton worst nightmare if he won. The race baiters would be out of a job. If it weren’t for my #1 concern national security I almost wish he’d win to get those charlatans off the national stage.

Has any candidate endorsed photo ID and or severe penalties like life in a federal prison?

I recall a sci-fi movie where each American citizen legal to vote had a DNA encoded pass card to allow them to vote, just once and when or where legal.

Here in Indiana, any of the poor people mentioned here can get a free ID card to vote. I believe you can call and they will even hlp you get there to get it.

The ad and info have appeared in commercials locally.

So, whatever the argument may be, it is all about Dems not wanting it harder to commit voter fraud.

Since this will reduce voter fraud, naturally there is big opposition.

That would be a more persuasive arguement if Indiananhad actually every prosecuted a case of voter fraud. The ACLU is using that as a reason for claiming that there is no need for a law for a problem that doesn't exist.

So the poor, elderly and minorities don't know HOW, or they don't take the TIME, to get an ID Card.

However they do know how and don't mind taking the time to vote?

Bull$h.t!!

“Why do democrats care this is a red state.”

Because if this law is approved by the Supremes, it will be adopted by OTHER States, as well.

That’s why Democrats MUST kill it here.

Both Indianapolis and Terre Haute now have REPUBLICAN Mayor’s, and many believe it is because of this law.

In Indy, the Inner-city Democrat Machine “Did not show up” on election day to save Bart Peterson.

I WONDER WHY???

Indiana HAS gone after voter fraud before, AND HARD.

That argument is a Red Herring.

The Lake County Joint Voter Fraud Task Force has obtained 2 more convictions from voting irregularities which occurred in the 2003 primary election in East Chicago, bringing to 32 the total number of convictions obtained to date. The Northwest Indiana Times writes:

Two more guilty pleas in the 2003 East Chicago primary election bring to 32 the number of voting fraud convictions since the maligned polling took place, prosecutors announced today.

Ashley Dunlap, of East Chicago, has pleaded guilty to one count of aiding the fraudulent application of a ballot, a Class D felony. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 27. In March 2006, Dunlap was charged by the Lake County Joint Voter Fraud Task Force — a cooperative effort between Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter and Lake County Prosecutor Bernard Carter.

Raymond Carillo, of Hammond, has pleaded guilty to one count of voting in a precinct in which he did not reside, a Class D felony. He is scheduled to be sentenced October 3, the attorney general reported. Carillo was a health inspector with the City of East Chicago when he was charged in August 2006.
