Mike Huckabee, the Presidential candidate and ordained Baptist Minister may be leading in the polls down in crucial South Carolina, but Fred Thompson plans to have a say about that. He went down there before New Hampshire was finished and started his bus tour through the state.
South Carolina is a make or break state for Thompson. He must either win or do very well to stay in contention. I don't think you can look at it any other way. Thompson received a key endorsement last month from Judge Paul Pressler. If you're a Southern Baptist, you know who he is. Watch his endorsement here and read about him below from Baptist Press:
Paul Pressler, who played an instrumental role in the Southern Baptist Convention's Conservative Resurgence, endorsed Fred Thompson for president Dec. 7.
Pressler is retired from the court but maintains an active international private practice. During the 1970s and 1980s he had a significant hand in guiding the Southern Baptist Convention back to its orthodox biblical roots.
Here's more on Pressler from CNSNews.com
Judge Paul Pressler, one of the leaders of the Southern Baptist reformation, has endorsed Thompson. Concerning Huckabee, Pressler told the Wall Street Journal's John Fund, "I know of no conservative he appointed while he headed the Arkansas Baptist Convention."
A story to watch is whether the Evangelical vote in South Carolina will sway the same way as Iowa. Read below from CNS News.com about that:
In an interview with Cybercast News Service, Mike DeVine, a former state Democratic Party official in South Carolina and a columnist for The Charlotte Observer, noted that the Republican Party there is markedly different from that in Iowa. "The GOP in South Carolina that I lost to a lot is mainstream conservatives," he said. "They're Reagan conservatives.. This includes evangelicals - they're mostly Southern Baptists. A lot of military too - much different from Iowa."
"I don't think that Huckabee will do nearly as well" in South Carolina as he did in Iowa, said DeVine. "Some of his views are simply anathema to the conservative philosophy of the state. He's shown some weaknesses. The people aren't going to just vote for him because he's a Baptist. They won't be nearly as receptive to identity politics."
The whole article is here. The last thing Huckabee can afford is a loss in South Carolina. He needs to win there to have a real shot at the nomination. Thompson will eat in to his support and so will McCain and Romney. Many in the media might take a Huckabee win for granted in South Carolina, but it's no sure thing.
Go FRed Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fred does not have to leave Quietly, but if he does not do very well in SC he might as well leave,
Let’s hope the article is correct.
The only place Fred is going is into the White House in January 09.
When he leaves it will not be quiet on this forum. However, for the broader electorate it will be a whisper, as his entire campaign has unfortunately been, since October.
C’mon, So Carolina - vote for Fred! Wisconsin wants its chance to have a say and Fred will win among conservatives here.
FRED SURGE!!!
FRED SURGE!!!
FRED SURGE!!!
Pressler is warming up for his ‘Come to Jesus’ talk with ole Huck.
Guess the South is worth something,,, Vote Thompson/Hunter
Fred Thompson....the next President of these United States. U.S. Army Retired |
What are other SC FRedheads doing to promote his candidacy?
I would love to see a poll that asked who people would vote for if their chosen one wasn't in the race.
Win S. Carolina Fred, then have the rest of the south fall in line.
Getting much better response from SC (phone for Fred from his website) than I had from Iowa.
Lots of supporters out there, some of them undecided but saying they’re likely to vote for Fred—it’s very encouraging.
Hope springs eternal.
How can I get a hold of his campaign schedule in SC from now until the primary?
Say here’s a question for you Fred supporters. The CW seems to be that if Fred drops out, he will give his support to McCain.
Now if this is correct, why would a rock-solid Conservative like Fred, support an illegal mnesty supporter, Global Warming alarmist,anti-tax cutter like John McCain?
