President Bush, summing up meetings with both sides in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, said today that a peace accord will require "painful political concessions" by each. Resolving the status of Jerusalem will be hard, he said, and he called for the end of the "occupation" of Arab land by the Israeli military.
"Now is the time to make difficult choices," Bush said after a first-ever visit to the Palestinian territories, which followed separate meetings with Israeli leaders in Jerusalem the day before.
Bush is in the Mideast for eight days, trying to bolster his goal of achieving a long-elusive peace agreement by the end of his presidency in a year. Speaking at his hotel in Jerusalem, he said again that he thinks that is possible.

Abbas sure looks like a happy man...
Remember that this is the man who carried out the murders of American diplomats in Khartoum in 1973. He was Yasser Arafat's right-hand man and partner in terror. And now Bush is doing his bidding.

Israel is not "occupying" Arab land, Mr. President. The Arabs' description of "occupation" includes all of Israel. They could have had a state 60 years ago but they rejected it. And their chief negotiator refuses to accept Israel as a Jewish State. All the goodwill has come from Israel's side. Israelis are not seeing it matched with reciprocity from the Palestinian side. To describe the conflict in terms of moral equivalence is the obverse of the historical truth. Both sides are far from being equally responsible, whether from a moral or legal standpoint.

White House Comment Line 1-202-456-1111; worth staying on hold for ten minutes to get a live operator and to speak for two minutes in a clear and concise tone.
Know that in 1997 the volume of calls to DOD got Sara Lister to leave. Think Harriet Myers and Immigration.
The clear voice of reason relies on individuals, never on government or media.

It’s possible. Heaven knows we can’t offend Mexico for the sake of a few meaningless things like our sovereignty, future and national security.

Bush continues his Nutty Liberal Globalist legacy.
This pretty much means the WOT is over. Bush is now on the side of the terrorists.
There will never be Middle East peace until the Islamics are dealt with strongly. You will never have Mid East peace if you continue to believe the fallacy “Islam is a religion of peace”

called for the end of the "occupation" of Arab land by the Israeli military Arab land is in Arabia. Are the Israelis occupying Saudi Arabia? Yemen? Oman? Did I miss something?
Say goodnight, Mr. President. Try not to cause World War III or IV by killing off Israel before you go.

WTH do Bush and Condi think they’re going to accomplish here? This is madness.

I don’t think we’ll have any problem finding a republican to carry on the legacy. If we all just vote for whoever we’re told is electable.

Be careful what you say there. Parody has a way of becoming reality in this strange new world.

To be charitable, I would say that Bush does not understand, nor care to understand, the history of the region. If he does, then his perfidy to our ally and to our own national security is breathtaking.
In political perspective, here is a man who has managed to alienate the left, the right, our allies with nothing to show for it. Shame on him.

*sigh*
How many of our last Presidents have made this exact statement only to be made fools of by the Palestinians?
Go home President Bush, prop your feet up and let someone else try to do this, no one will have peace there unless one side admits defeat because both sides will never admit victory together.
