..check with Directv
Nope, it still works fine.
Get Dishnetwork.
I’ve had other issues recently with my unit freezing resulting in multiple reboots. Then as quickly as the incidents appeared, it stopped. Everything seems to be working fine now.
Glad to see a thread about DirecTV. Does anyone have an issue with FNC Ch 360 where the screen is oversized, cutting off the top and bottom of the frame? Don’t recall this being a problem before switching to the HD receiver, while FNC still doesn’t broadcast in HD.
NO problems here such as you have encountered.
Did notice that DirecTV moved the MGMHD and other HDmovie channels to a different tier with a $4.99/month price tag.
Which puts them in the same frame of mind for me as HBO, Showtime, CM, etc. "Why do I need to pay to watch 20 year old movies?"
Mine is still working fine. Could it be you chose “Record Series” instead of “Record Episode”?
I dont have a DVR with DTV. However, I have noted a LOT of strangeness in the radio signals. I have two different dishes on the house feeding three different boxes. However, no matter which one of the boxes I’m using, every so often I get “freezes”. I’ve noted the exact same thing at work (we have a DTV dish feeding out internet connection in the building for FOX news only) so this is either a satellite issue or an issue with the signal feed at the headend. Not sure which. Not sure if this is related to your problem though
Mine’s working fine. I love my Direct TV. After I had to evacuate for Hurricane Katrina, and realized that I wouldn’t be going home for a while, I called Direct TV and told them to suspend my service until futher notice, which they gladly did.
When I returned home, my satellite receiver was in perfect condition and had not been damaged by the high winds. When I was ready to reconnect my service several months later, I called DirectTV and while I was still on the phone, my service was back up and running.
My friends and neighbors who had cable had to wait for months for the cable company to reconnect their service. Many switched to DirectTV rather than wait.
I’m not with DirectTV, but in the past we had Dish, then Comcast, now Verizon FIOS and we’ve run into this problem with all of them.
It happens with all shows that re-air the episode multiple times during the week. As far as I can tell, they still consider those re-aired episodes “first runs.” So this especially happens with the premium channels which always show a week’s new episode more than once.
I either just go in and delete all the scheduled recordings, except the original I want. Or I go in a set a manual recording for the day of the week and time and then have it repeat every week.
Just got the HR21 for my 50” plasma.
Still learning it, but it did lose the second satellite right after the first software update. A reset fixed that.
I do notice that my HDMI input sometimes fails to pickup and hold the input signal, so I have to switch to component input. Not sure if it’s the TV or the DVR.
I have Directv and love it (esp the HD content, growing all the time)
As for your problem, I think you may have to change your record setup to “record new” instead of getting all the repeats.
Also, for those of you with an HR20 series HD-DVR, “DirecTv On Demand” is now in beta. It lets you download content over the internet (you need a broadband connection) so you don’t have to schedule a recording or wait for something to watch... you merely download it when you want it, and it’s free!
Apparently, the next upgrade may include ability to program your DVR over the net.
Newer DirecTV DVR went in the trash. Using an older DirecTV TiVo unit.
It took about 6 trips of the service company to get to our house with the correct instructions and the correct equipment. I don’t know who was miscommunicating with who but they finally got it all right and it works like a charm.
I live in an area with no cable, and putting up a dish would involve cutting a whole bunch of trees. However, we do have a DSL internet connection which has enabled the use
of free online TV services such as tvunetworks.com, streamnettv.com, veoh.com to name a few. Channels from all over the world, with enough American ones to cure my television fix without adding a monthly bill - a 20 inch Magnavox LCD TV as a monitor helps also. It’s not HD on a 30 foot plasma, but not bad.
Forgive me for not reading other responses, but the DVR for DirectTV is the absolute worst dvr you can buy. Here’s a couple of links that may help (good luck.)

Nope. Not having that problem.
I played around with the menu yesterday, and found something I think worked on my DVR, time will tell. I deleted the timers that didn’t work, deleted any shows from the DVR that were the same as the timer, then redid the “Record All” option on the shows. As of this morning they all recorded. (My problem channel seemed to be Discovery Kids). If it comes up again, I’ll bite the bullet and call DirecTV.
Book mariking for hubby when he gets home. He needs to read some of these informative posts!
I know that something happened with our TiVo from DirecTV - is that what you have? They told us we’d need a new one.
