The Real Mike Huckabee
[posted online on January 11, 2008]
Of all the right-wing figures who have promoted Mike Huckabee's extraordinary political rise from a backwater church to the national pulpit of a presidential campaign--and there are many--perhaps none know the former Arkansas governor and current Republican presidential front-runner better than Jay Cole. A Baptist minister based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with a right-wing radio talk show of his own, Cole has been instrumental in inspiring Huckabee's rise over more than two decades. Indeed, when Huckabee was the governor of Arkansas, it was Cole who persuaded him to arrange the release from prison of a convicted rapist, Wayne Dumond, who had become a born-again evangelical in prison--the most controversial act of Huckabee's career, which still dogs him on the campaign trail.
I spoke to Cole by telephone a week before Huckabee's surprise victory in the Iowa caucuses on January 3. He was supremely confident that his saintly friend would prevail over the hosts of darkness. "Mike is one of the finest and most gracious individuals God has ever placed on Earth," Cole told me in his thick Southern drawl. "Not only does he have speaking ability, he has the Lord looking over him."

neither do I but using the Nation as your reference pint is kinda slimy too don’t ya think?
they don’t like anyone to the right of Chomsky
Many people believed that Dumond castrated himself to engender exactly the kind of pity he got from the naive and bleeding-heart liberal, Huckabee.
There was never any evidence found that someone else, other than Dumond, committed the act.
It is equally evil to use Christianity as a political ploy.
You are right..Huck believes that his system of beliefs is based on a Higher Law and that Law is above all other laws of this country..Many of us do believe in a Higher Law but we see it as being a guide for the laws of many nations, not as the final Law that must be imposed on everybody in this country as the Huckster would like to do...In his thinking he is close to the Muslims who want to impose their brutal Sharia law on their followers..In a word, he is a religious fanatic..a True Believer..that is what drives him...Never trust a fanatic...
The Huckster is totally unacceptable on other grounds..He is a liar, is ignorant,a tax and spend liberal, a bleeding heart wimp, a person who listens to another preacher’s advice and then accepts that other preacher’s advice on blind faith-read the whole Nation article and see for yourselves..It has been documented that the parole board denied parole to Wayne Dumond by a vote of 4 to 1 but after Huckster leaned on the Board, they reversed and approved the parole...That isn’t just ignorance, that was evil what Huckabee did....I would never vote for him and hope that the people in this country wake up before they are duped by this charlatan...
Here’s one context...Read the letters from the women victims who were raped by Dumond and who pleaded with the parole board that Dumond not be released..Letters which Huckabee received- and ignored...

And it is very good to relate one's worldview and the basis of one's political philosophy -- and in a free republic allow people to choose, upon such information.
Crucify him! Crucify him!
I do not respond to flames..
all i can say is: if the shoe fits.......
Good thing the OP is promoting the truth about Huckster, then....
There's video of him giving an honest explanation ("I didn't cut spending elsewhere to pay for education because I like tax increases and consider them my first resort.")?
I listen to Tax Hike Mike’s record.
Michael Dukakis called. He wants his excuses back.
He regrets getting caught. That seems to be common among Arkansas governors.
You say "One, in that so often partially quoted letter where Huckabee explains that he would like to commute the sentence (for his sake) but believed that would be the wrong thing to do."
That is a complete distortion of Mike's position on Dumond's release. Here's his actual position, based upon his statements at the time.
"'The Post-Prison Transfer Board has voted to parole Wayne Dumond, and he will be released to Texas, where he has a job, counseling and a support group awaiting him,' Huckabee said in a statement issued after the board's vote. 'I concur with the board's action and hope the lives of all those involved can move forward. The action of the board accomplishes what I sought to do in considering an earlier request for a commutation. That is to allow Mr. Dumond to leave Arkansas since he has a sentence served longer than those normally given for similar crimes in the county where he was convicted." Huckabee noted that Dumond has been eligible for parole for more than four years since Lt. Gov. Jim Guy Tucker commuted his sentence in 1992."

Now either quit lying about it or continue lying about it and prove you care not for truth.
He has admitted, with regret, that he played a part, along with the rest. He also gave the orders to execute numerous prisoners.
Huckabee is only refuting the baseless charges involved.
BTW, thanks for the classy big print.
You said he was against the release of Dumond. That is demonstrably false. You chose to continue to ignore that you are not telling the truth. Hardly a surprise.
I put it in big print because I thought you'd get a bit tangled up in a big section of text like that. Thanks for not disappointing me.
Give me a break! Since when is it evil to post articles?? Nooberep never even made a comment.
It is evil to use a murder victims mother, to campaign.
FYI, since you have blinders on. The "murder victim's mother" has a video on YouTube telling people that Huckabee released a man from prison who murdered her daughter. Even more than that, she said she will do everything to keep Huckster from becoming President, because he couldn't even run his own state right, let alone run the country. She spoke the truth.
Mike Huckabee has fully denied attempting to influence anyone, to parole Dumont.
Well, that's not a surpise since the Huckster is dishonest. He's one of those "say anything to get elected kinda guys." You know, like the Clintons. Funny that the Huckster comes from Arkansas like the frist family of shysters.......the Clintons!
No evidence has been submitted against him. Only the testimony of people given office by Clinton or Tucker and whom Huckabee dismissed.
What kind of evidence do you need? By his own admission, he let over 1000 criminals out of prison to prey upon society again!!! THAT initself, is criminal......
Shame on you.
NO, shame on you for attacking Noobrep for posting an article, and shame on you for pinging Jim Rob and the mods. How childish of you! Grow up!
Since I don't know who you are, 808, I have to make allowances. I did not say that Huckabee did not want Dumond freed, after seeing sketchiness of the Dumond case. It seems most of the entire state did, who was paying any attention -- especially the Arkansas conservatives who thought that Clinton's people may have been persecuting him in this case. I said that Huckabee is on record as denying Dumond's commutation three or four times, since he wouldn't have been able to assure supervision.
Finally, though, the Jim Guy Tucker parole process took hold and the Clinton/Tucker parole board released Dumond granted he leave Arkansas. Much to his regret, Gov. Huckabee concurred with this poor solution.
Issues of "Law and Order" are never perfect. Sometimes, hopefully very rarely, mistakes happen. I know. I used to live in Illinois, where numerous innocent death row prisoners have been exhonerated in recent years. This particular mistake occured on the other side.
That is what happens, when a human being is governor for ten or so years.
But this outrageous 527 paints the picture that it was virtually all Huckabee's doing. Huckabee actually delayed any releast of Dumond repetitively, until the parole board acted.
But, keep joining the spinners in character assassination, if you want. We still have a First Amendment. But I will likely not be responding to your flame jobs any more.
No, it was not all Huckabee's doing. I would not assert that (whatever the 527 says). It does fit within a troubling pattern of pardons and commutations that are not indicative of a good grasp of a conservative view of crime and punishment.
I will attempt to give you the benefit of the doubt. You said "Meanwhile, Gov. Huckabee withstood the pressure to commute the sentence of Dumond, three or four times. One, in that so often partially quoted letter where Huckabee explains that he would like to commute the sentence (for his sake) but believed that would be the wrong thing to do." That gave the distinct impression that you believed that Huckabee did not want Dumond out of prison. When his record says exactly the opposite. If that is not what you meant, then I apologize.
