They lost me when “oriental” became “asian” in the US. Why “oriental” is no longer PC escapes me, but formerly, in the good old days, a Japanese was an “oriental”, and an Arab was a “middle easterner”. Now they’re all “asians”, even though they have nothing in common that I know of.

Maybe that is why American posters see the term used (albeit with a different connotation) in UK media and assume it to be a similar situation.
Whereas I have never heard anyone in the UK view ‘oriental’ as a taboo word, and Indians and Pakistanis were described as ‘asian’, long before we had ever heard of political correctness.
We are probably oversensitized to PC Laundering, and begin to see it everywhere.
The joke "How can you tell if your house has been broken into by an Oriental?--Your kid's Algebra homework is done, and nothing is missing", just would not work for the "Asians" mentioned in the article.
It’s a vast left-wing conspiracy, IMHO.
If that is true one has to wonder why the title of the story and its main focus is on their Asian descent/affiliation and the victims being white. No mention of motivation for the attacks is in the article. Motivation is usually a prime piece of information in both the courts and the press.
Racial abuse was shouted and a weapon was used by someone. There was no specific evidence that any of the three individuals used the weapon or shouted the abuse. But, as they were part of a mob of 30, it would be unsuprising if witnesses couldn’t pick out indivduals to tie to specific actions.
It’s fairly irrelevant as there was obviously enough evidence to convict each of them of attempted murder.
Without compromising the decency of the forum; could you tell me what kind of racial epithets Asians with Arabic surnames might hurl at white people? I ask because it is common here for our leftist press to level accusations of racism at those of us opposed to illegal immigration when in fact “Mexican” is a nationality not a race. It goes without saying (or should) that not all illegals are Mexicans but that doesn’t stop the press.
As you well know my son in law is Indian, a Sikh Indian. He gets very offended if he is called Asian.
Asians? Why not say it in more clear words: Violent Muslims.
Two with guns and one with a knife.
That works for me! But why is he bringing a knife to a gun fight?
I don’t doubt that.
In the same way that Europe is considered distinct from Asia, despite the fact that it's all one contiguous continent. They just make the boundary between Europe and Asia be the Ural Mountains. Similarly, the Himalayan Mountains form an effective boundary between India and the rest of Asia
Kaffir (infidel) is typical. In a Muslim country, calling somebody a Kaffir carries similar attitudes as calling somebody a [n-word] in 1920's Alabama would
Yes, I understand that. But there was a denial here that their religious affiliation had anything to do with the attack. In fact no mention was made in the article that they were Muslims. That is what is in contention on this thread. I wanted to know what the other poster thought was the motivation for the attack.
You got that right.
I think things will get so much worse in England and the rest of Europe! I’m from Holland and went back there for the first time in 20 years. I couldn’t believe the difference! Crime was rare. Murder, pretty much unheard off. Now crime has taken over. The prisons in Holland and the UK are full of Moslems who want to take full advantage of being citizens while at the same time, detesting the countries that took them in and having an absolute hatred it’s people and wishing to turn these countries into islamic hell holes (nearly there!). Eventually Islam will have to be outlawed in non moslem countries, particularly the UK, Holland, France etc. I believe things will get so bad, so much worse, that will be the only thing left to do.
