The bridge was quite narrow (one lane) and short. It had a couple of 2 x 10's as a guard rail. Apparently, Kennedy was fleeing a summer constable (who was not in pursuit, and had no arrest or summons authority) when he hit the narrow wooden bridge at over 60 mph.
