Indiana Jones meets the Da Vinci Code (Koran a Hoax?)
Asia Times ^ | Jan 15, 2008 | Spengler

Islam watchers blogged all weekend about news that a secret archive of ancient Islamic texts had surfaced after 60 years of suppression. Andrew Higgins' Wall Street Journal report that the photographic record of Koranic manuscripts, supposedly destroyed during World War II but occulted by a scholar of alleged Nazi sympathies, reads like a conflation of the Da Vinci Code with Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail. The Da Vinci Code offered a silly fantasy in which Opus Dei, homicidal monks and twisted billionaires chased after proof that Christianity is a hoax. But the story of the photographic archive of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences, now ensconced in a Berlin vault, is a case of life imitating truly dreadful art.

....The history of the archive reads like an Islamic version of the Da Vinci Code. It is not clear why its existence was occulted for sixty years, or why it has come to light now, or when scholars will have free access to it.

What if scholars can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Koran was not dictated by the Archangel Gabriel to the Prophet Mohammad during the 7th century, but rather was redacted by later writers drawing on a variety of extant Christian and Jewish sources?

I always thought this was obvious.

Of course the Muslims always worm around the obvious by saying the Christians and the Jews corrupted Allah’s message and the Koran is the perfect message given by the Archangel Gabriel to the Prophet Mohammad.

But some how I think I believe more in a god that sends a message of love rather than a message of hate.

I’ll take the Bible over the Koran any day.

There is a whole school of thought that concludes that the world is facing a true clash of cultures, Islam against all else, anyway. Whose to say that this won’t be the match that touches off the coming conflagration?
The simple fact is that Islam is a cult, and needs to be eradicated. If now is the time...so be it. Lock and Load.

The Bible teaches us that many will be deceived in the end times. This appears to fit the Biblical description.

Shhhhh! You do not need a library to prove the silly cut and paste of Judaic and Christian sources that became the Quran. All you have to do is sit down and read existing books side by side, after reading a good history of Muhammad.

The elephant in the room.

I’m afraid I’m going to have to leave this one alone during office “water-cooler” chatter. ;-)

That is a pretty big hoax. A pretty big cult too.

I have my doubts.

Let’s watch and see anyway. It’ll be fun. Just no cartoons of Muhammad with a bomb on his head.

I really enjoyed the History Channels series on parts of the bible that were purposefully left out because the “scholars” or “rulers” of the time didn’t think they fit well. It is called “Banned from the Bible” and is a great watch, that is if you’re open minded enough to watch such a thing.

Could be another pile of quicksand in the test. Mankind has probably been here before and didn’t find the way out and now mankind is here again. The koran is the devil’s handbook, and the devil’s worshipers of islam have been fighting for a lie and continue to do so. Is this the way it is? I would not be surprised.

If you are open-minded, you would start from the fact that the Bible is an anthology. Anthologies are by definition collections of writing chosen by authorities. Rabbinical judaism omitted many works by applying certain standards. Protestants omitted works that Catholics include. “Banned from the Bible” is a sensational title implying that there was something fishy going on.

Whatever their provenance or validity, whoever is holding these documents is in serious danger from the crazies.

This from the WSJ article:

A scholar in northern Germany writes under the pseudonym of Christoph Luxenberg because, he says, his controversial views on the Quran risk provoking Muslims. He claims that chunks of it were written not in Arabic but in another ancient language, Syriac. The "virgins" promised by the Quran to Islamic martyrs, he asserts, are in fact only "grapes."
