Coburn to Endorse McCain

The McCain camp says their candidate will get a "major endorsement" today in Greenville, South Carolina. MSNBC is reporting that Senator Tom Coburn will endorse John McCain.

Don't get me wrong. It's a solid endorsement, but I don't know if you would consider it a "major endorsement." To be a major endorsement, a person really has to have national name recognition. If you line ten people up, nine out of ten probably couldn't tell you who Coburn is.

Having said that, Coburn is a nice feather in the cap. He's known for shaking up Washington because of his fights against excess federal spending in Washington. In that regard, it's a great fit for the maverick McCain and really a no-brainer. Also, Coburn is a big time social conservative so the fact that a southern senator would come out and support McCain is a big bonus.

We are starting to see a pattern develop here in the Republican nomination fight. McCain is trotting out his Senate buddies to stump for him on the trail. It has the feel of a Washington establishment candidate who is banking on his experience to win the nomination.

Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee go around talking about change and aren't as deeply entrenched with the Washington crowd.

It'll be interesting to see which philosophy and strategy win out.

I believe McCain on his pro-life views. What evidence is there to the contrary?

As for his son, do you have a link?

McCain's son not talking to his father was discussed on another thread here, I cannot recall which one - there have been so many. I'll let you know if I find it.

McCain is creepy, Imagine having someone like him in the Oval Office who voted against barring violent gang members and terrorists from this country. His immigration positions are basically a sellout of this country.

#82 in the thread “(Michigan-Mitt Romney leading John McCain by 5 points” mentions McCain admitting that he and his son are not talking. Maybe the poster GOP_Lady can give you more details about McCain and son. I heard it somewhere else also but cannot recall where.

Graham has like a 92 ACU rating

Your buddy McCain has a 2006 ACU rating of 65 (which is FAILING) and Grahams is 83.

Their support of Terrorists rights and Amnesty will make those numbers continue to sink.
McCain's embrace of the Global Warming Myth will send his number even further into failure territory.

American Conservative Union Ratings of McCain's Senate Supporters (2006 - latest ratings).

Sen. Sam Brownback -- 87
Sen. Richard Burr -- 92
Sen. Tom Coburn -- 100
Sen. Susan Collins -- 48
Sen. Pete Domenici -- 75
Sen. Lindsey Graham -- 83
Sen. Jon Kyl -- 92
Sen. Joe Lieberman -- 17
Sen. Gordon Smith -- 72
Sen. Olympia Snowe -- 36
Sen. John Thune -- 100
Sen. John Warner -- 64

That is an average of 72.
When the ratings come out for 2007, many of these amnesty pushers are going to have MUCH lower numbers.

By the way, McCain's American Conservative Union rating for 2006 was 65.

This year it will probably be below 50.

I think some people are confused.

It is Rudy and his son who are not on speaking terms.

Reportedly it is both Rudy and McCain who are estranged from their sons. IIRC, Rudy and his son still speak but are not on good terms.

No, to be accurate you clearly wrote: "with a very few exceptions."

I just wanted you to be clear that Mr. Coburn isn't a RINO.

Is that clearer? : )

John Mc Cain is a Republican Hillary Clinton.

He will say anything and do anything to get elected.

Once elected the real John Mc Cain comes out.

The Keating Five, Mc Cain Fingold, against tax cuts, the Gang of 14, ect.

Like Hillary, so long as one agrees with his stance on issues he is smiling. It is when one has the aduacity to disagree with him that he gets nasty.

I, personally will not vote for him under any circumstances.

If it comes down to a Hillarry vs. Mc Cain I will vote third party or write in.
