The Times documentation of 121 potential killings out of more than 1.5 million veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq) and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), divided by 6 years of conflict results in a murder rate of just 1.34 incidents per 100,000 veterans per year.
Since all but one of the veterans cited by the Times who committed a killing in the U.S. was male, the comparable rate is approximately 7.67 incidents of murder per 100,000 people among the general male population, compared to just 1.34 incidents per 100,000 returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans (of both genders).

Traitorous bastards
The NY Times is PATHETIC and treasonous. Hang Pinchy.
Who in the hell reads the New York Times? Not me, that’s for sure:-()
thus meaning, if you join the military and go to war, you have less chances of killing someone back home. woo hoo!
You were expecting anything else?
It must have many, many hours of research for the NYT to gather that statistic. Comparing that to the baseline of overall murder rates would have taken minutes.
Research method:
1. Develop conclusion.
2. Gather data.
3. Ignore data that doesn't prove conclusion.
That’s pretty much it. Write the story, and fit the “facts” to prove the story. However, I see a pearl of hope here. Since the homicide rate for returning vets is much lower than the general population, we need to send EVERYONE to Iraq and that way, we will get the homicide rate of the general public DOWN to the rate of the returning veterans. (Take THAT NY Times)
People! People! People! This is the New York Times we are talking about here. Who is surprised by this? Come on, a show of hands. Thats what I thought!
Remember the NYT tag line...”Do not let a little thing like facts get in the way fo a good story.”

I think you give the Times too much credit for work they would never consider doing. This is the way I believe they do research.
1. Stumble upon a research report.
2. Develop a left leaning opinion of that reports conclusions.
3. Write an article that totally misrepresents the data and supports the preconceived leftist opinion already in the writers mind.
“All the lies that fits their tent!”
Okay, so you hate McCain...but you compound the lie of the NY Times by telling one yourself. McCain had nothing to do with Kerry’s tale.
All the News that’s S**t to Print.

In year 2002 we Freepers called into Sen. JOHN McCAIN’s Senate Office asking the Senator to not support Sen. JOHN KERRY’s blocking the already House-passed Vietnam Human Rights Bill.
We were told, directly, that Senator JOHN McCAIN supported his friend Sen. JOHN KERRY’s blocking of that same Vietnam Human Rights Bill.

Today RUSH LIMBAUGH read a news story about ROSS PEROT’s take on JOHN McCAIN.
A very POW-Issue involved ROSS PEROT was asked to take care of a then POW JOHN McCAIN’s wife, after she had been injured in an auto accident. He did just that.
When a limping JOHN McCAIN was freed from captivity and came home to an also limping wife ..he ended up divorcing her in favor of marrying the present and very rich CINDY McCAIN.
Which gave JOHN McCAIN a financial base to run for national elective office with.
