Edwards to Obama: Im Nothing Like Reagan
17-Jan-2008

Make no mistake: if elected, Senator John Edwards has no desire to be compared to former Republican President Ronald Reagan. Presidential hopeful John Edwards put in his two cents after a recent remark made by fellow presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama, according to FOX News.
Senator Edwards pointed to a recent comment by Obama that Reagan was a role model for change, something Obama also sees himself as. In the article, Obama was quoted as calling Reagan "transformational," something akin to Obama, whose campaign has risen to new heights on the motto of change.
Obama was quoted in the article as characterizing Reagan's tenure as president one of hope, also a message Obama has been championing for himself: "He tapped into what people were already feeling which is, we want clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing."
Obama also went on to describe Reagan's success as the result of both a nation that was "so sick of a blue state president, Carter," and as a result of his "being 100 percent red-state."
While campaigning in Nevada, in preparation for this weekend's upcoming Nevada caucus, Edwards shot back at Obama's Reagan discussion. FOX quoted Edwards as critiquing Obama's observations on Reagan and characterizing the words as support for The Gipper: "Senator Obama used Ronald Reagan President Ronald Reagan as an example of change. My view is I will never use Ronald Reagan as an example of change."
FOX reports that Edwards went on to criticize Reagan's treatment of unions, adding that if elected, he would be nothing like Reagan: " I can guarantee
this President [points to himself] will never use Ronald Reagan as an example of change." Edwards recently was endorsed by a number of union leaders. His former running mate, Senator John Kerry, visibly came out in support of Senator Barack Obama last week.
Yeah. And here I was under the assumption that it was gonna be close. Surprise us. Have the BEAST state that she has no desire to be compared to *Bubba. Now THAT'S news...
Got that right.
Hey, John Edwards said something truthful! Wow.
Plus, that quote should be something most of our Republican hopefuls memorize because they aren’t like Reagan. (”I like jelly beans, therefore, I’m just like Reagan”). *spit*
That’s right Pony Boy. Reagan was a giant who’ll be listed among the greatest Presidents of the United States. John Edwards will be listed among the greatest presidents of the HairClub For Men.
Out of the mouths of babes.
Oh I don’t know, I think John Edwards might have a lot in common with Reagan.
Nancy that is.
One thing for sure—Mr. Obama knows how to dress. Better than Hillary even. What’s with Edwards’ tie/suit/button in the middle thing?
She-who—cannot-be-named has more junk in the trunk than Fred Sanford.
Edwards has nothing to worry about.
Ronald Reagan was elected President twice.
Edwards won’t be.
Where’s that “Master Of The Obvious” graphic?
Uh, Johnny? Reagan was a union president. What have you ever done except sue people?
Obama was quoted in the article as characterizing Reagan's tenure as president one of hope, also a message Obama has been championing for himself: "He tapped into what people were already feeling which is, we want clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing."
That Obama is one smart cookie.
Tapping into blue dog democrat who voted for Reagan in the 80's Something no Republican has yet to do
I'm almost surprised he has not co-oped Reagan's "Morning in America" theme for his campaign
Maybe THIS reagan...
Ron Jr is far more feminine than Nancy ever was...
How is this even a conceivable comparison in the first place?
It’s like comparing cement to wall paper.
Obama also went on to describe Reagan's success as the result of both a nation that was "so sick of a blue state president, Carter," and as a result of his "being 100 percent red-state."
"Red" and "Blue" states don't go back that far. Georgia was a long-time Democrat state that went Democrat twice for Carter, but today it's a very red state. California was a more or less Republican state in the days of Nixon and Reagan, but now it's very blue.
It doesn't make much sense to talk about "red states" and "blue states" before GWB era. TV newscasts used the colors the other way around:
NVA to Edwards: at last we can agree on something.
Finally something I agree with him on!
