All the talk of rescue efforts failed to soothe Wall Street. The Dow Jones industrials plunged 306.95 points,

I guess not since wages are down, homebuilding down, people and companies in debt, jobs disappearing and gas and food prices up. Something ugly comes our way.

United for urgent action, the White House and Congress raced toward emergency steps Thursday to rescue the national economy from a possible recession,

Idiots running to stick their finger in the dike.

it won’t make up for what we’ve lost in the stock market or from lost pensions due to a company bankruptcy.....it won’t even pay for the huge oil run up.....

You are not alone. Just checked my returns from last year; my wife and I paid $22,746.30 in federal income taxes in 2006. Of course, our 2008 RepubliCrat stimulus rebate will be $0.00.

Meanwhile, over on the other side of the tracks, Joe Sixpack will get $800 for himself and $800 for his wife, despite having paid $0.00 in federal taxes in 2006. I will have to buy stock in beer and cigarette makers, to recover at least some portion of the subsequent spending spree.

Yes but the people who didn’t pay anything in are most likely to spend it and stimulate the economy unlike a person like me. I’ll either pay down my car faster or put it in a CD.

...."How in the hell did we get so out of whack in this country anyway?".....

Well, it all started with Karl Marx and his strange ideas. Now we have been convinced that Jesus would steal your money and force you to give it to people that you don't want to help. That makes you a "nice" person. What that does is takes the pressure off the Mega churches to have to give to the poor so they can buy G5 jets for their pastors. That way they can fly to Washington to tell the government they need to steal more to give to the poor. Instead of the Church supporting the needy, we point them to the nearest welfare office.

I could go on for an hour, but you get the drift. We have become delusional.

It's my friggin' money to begin with. They never should have taken it to begin with. Nice to get a tiny percent back.

I'll believe it when it's in the bank.

Please tell me that's per "taxpayer", not per "person"....

The REAL point of debate here, thanks.

Didn't you see the story yesterday where it was recommended they raise gas taxes by about that same amount?

I did see that! What are they smoking to have an idea like that?

Sailor: "Hey Captain, the boat has a leak and is taking on water! What shall we do?"

Captain: "I know - let's punch another hole in the side, that'll fix 'er!"

We can forget the undocumented Americans in our shadows. They deserve some of the largess as well!

Excellent point. Don't give one cent to anyone who is NOT paying taxes in the first place.

In my opinion, the energy and oil companies can’t wait until they can line their pockets with the money. They are just waiting to be able to run the price up higher. That is where it will go.

Actually the way our "fearless leaders" think is first they punch a hole in one side. Then when the boat lists to that side they punch a hole in the other side. Then the boat sinks evenly but it looks like there is no problem.

And I still have to ‘press 1’ for English.

Look on the bright side.

You don't have to push 2 for English...... yet!

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke endorsed the idea of putting money into the hands of those who would spend it quickly and boost the flagging economy.

Right. Let's just turn the printing presses on and our problems will be gone. If it works in Zimbabwe it has to work here.

Pure socialism, wealth redistribution, just like “free healthcare”. They’ve taken my money and now they are going to give it to those they deem worthy.

Has this happened before? I remember a tax rebate check in 2001 or before. Maybe? I tried to google, it but I have to get the kids going on their school work. Anyone remember?

Free money! Whoo-hoo! Now I can buy Packers Super Bowl tickets!

Free to some, but not free to those of us who have paid it. If they want to give me back the money they have taken away from me at the point of a gun this year, I will take it back. It ain't "free money". It is my money they took away from me. I earned it. They took it way from me by force.
