Krauthammer: Black Dreams, White Liberals
The Washington Post ^ | January 18, 2007 | Charles Krauthammer

-- snip --

But telling Obama to wait his turn is a tricky proposition. It sounds patronizing and condescending, awakening the kinds of racial grievances white liberals have spent half a century fanning -- only to find themselves now singed in the blowback, much to their public chagrin.

Who says there's no justice in this world?

Their unwitting strategy has a cult like grip on the lives of black Americans and is reassuring to many poor to middle class racists and/or liberal white Americans that their relative social stature will be preserved.

There are some real gems in this article.

white liberals acting as tribune for blacks in return for their political loyalty -- is a demeaning anachronism. That's what the fury at Hillary was all about, although no one was willing to say so explicitly.

Hillary's comments exposed the Democrats' plantation politics -- i.e., keep blacks as wards of the state and beholding to their white Democrat patrons.

Now it is Hillary's turn. The presidency is her due -- the ultimate in alimony

You gotta love that -- "the ultimate in alimony"

[Why should African American dreams still have to go through white liberals?]

They shouldn’t and they never did. What is wrong is that this generation does not know history or government as they are poorly educated in the horrible public shool system. They should know that history shows it was the once conservative republican party that passed the civil rights legislation that put an end to racial discrimination by the awful dixiecrat democrat party of the south and that he democrat party was the one that sponcered and engendered the KKK after the civil war and always stood against the Christian conservative party .

I have not yet read the entire article, just bits and pieces from the responses. Why? Because last election - in Maryland - showed me that blacks - as a whole - will march lock-step with the Dem party no matter what that party does to them. I have written them off as ever voting for Republicans. Someone convince me I am wrong.

Sorry. This article was previously posted under the title, "Clintons Lose Their Claim on Race Card." Here's the link.

Here's another gem. Krauthammer really cuts through the BS here:

But where, I ask you, do such studied and/or sincere expressions of racial offense come from? From a decades-long campaign of enforced political correctness by an alliance of white liberals and the black civil rights establishment intended to delegitimize and marginalize as racist any criticism of their post-civil-rights-era agenda.

Spot on analysis....

Wait ‘till Obama’s church and pastor start getting scrutiny. Wanna talk about a race backlash - let’s see how America likes Obama’s Afro-Centric Church with Louis Farakhan as 2008 Man of the Year?

Yeah, he’s not racist a bit.

Because last election - in Maryland - showed me that blacks - as a whole - will march lock-step with the Dem party no matter what that party does to them.

Blacks who experienced Jim Crow firsthand are getting older and no longer wield the political influence they once had. Younger black generations don't have personal experience with that. I've read that younger blacks do not feel as closely tied to the Democrat party as their elders and an increasing number are registering as Independents.

Also there is a growing black middle and upper class and they will vote their pocketbooks.

It will also be interesting to see what happens politically when blacks are definitely not the largest minority group nationwide as Hispanics will pass them. When Democrats start rampant pandering to Hispanics (which has already begun) and take the black vote for granted, that may ruffle feathers.

It will not get any big-time media scrutiny unless Obama wins the nomination. Than, when Republicans bring it up, we will be branded as racists.

That is total BS. The blacks who experienced Jim Crow experienced it under Dems, not Pubs! Yet, since the 60's, they vote as a block for Dems. Go figure! You tell me - are they that dumb? Did Martin Luther King, Jr. - as a black growing up in the south in the 40's and 60's - do you think when or if he voted, he voted for Dems? Did he vote for the same Dems that wouldn't let him eat at the lunch counter, made him ride in the back of the bus, made him drink out of separate water fountains? And if he did, than he was a friggin' idiot!

I'm just about finished with Judge Clarance Thomas' book. Here's a man - an intelligent man - who came out of the south at the end of the Jim Crow era who slowly realized that it was the Dems doing harm to blacks and not Pubs. It's right there where anyone can see it. The information is right there for anyone to know it. And yet - blacks as a block - will continue to pull the lever for the Dems. Please, someone tell me why!

You are correct. And you could make a case that the War on Poverty, credited to LBJ, was actual Nixon's idea. But all that doesn't matter.

What matters is that the Democrat Party, being the party of big government and more and more social programs, has pandered to the black community for decades.

Self-appointed black leaders have personally benefited greatly from this largesse.

It's all about the gravy train and black people have been told and believe that if Republicans are elected, all their government handouts will cease.

President Bush’s first Sec of Education, Dr. Rod Paige, was asked at a press conference “why are you a Republican?”

His reply: “Because when I was growing up in Mississippi, the democrats were hanging black people.”
