Whether you support Romney or Thompson, and assuming that Thompson cannot win tomorrow, it would seem to me that we are all better off with Huck winning than McCain.
Huck’s nomination is unacceptable to the GOP establishment, whereas McCain poses much more of a danger over the long haul. I welcome feedback if anyone disagrees with this assessment.
There is also a very strong likelihood that Thompson will endorse McCain if McCain wins tomorrow in SC.
The Round-Heeled Media is bored with the whole Republican thing. They want to name the front-runner and presumptive nominee and get on with it. The first candidate to win two contests is going to suddenly have a lot of momentum.
If it is Huckabee, he could actually win the nomination. If Huckabee wins the nomination, we might as well just blow up the party and start building something new. I think Huckabee represents a far bigger threat to conservative principles that McCain ever could, and I am no fan of John McCain.
We should number all the "Fred is dropping out" rumors, so we can keep them straight. This is number 43,862, I think.
And this strong likelihood is coming from what evidence?
I don’t know, I think during a primary the voters would get sick of all those TV ads.
the strong evidence is that Thompson only consented to run after seriously considering an endorsement of McCain. They are old Senate friends... ever hear of the McCain-Feingold-Thompson campaign finance reform?
So, in other words, there's no evidence at all.
Has Feingold scheduled his press conference to endorse McCain? I mean, they voted for the same bill, yes?
No, sorry to disappoint you — Thompson was a co-sponsor of this horrific legislation.
More importantly, you can ask any knowledgable conservative - I do not have a personal agenda here — but in all likelihood if Thompson were to endorse anyone, it is McCain. That is a fact. Note too that Thompson has yet to lay a glove on McCain in his campaign.
Well then this begs the question. Why do people want to vote for someone who would endorse McCain because of some friendship or professional ties? I mean, running the country is important job. This is just good ole boys club attitude.
They worked on a bill together 6 years ago, therefore Thompson will endorse John McCain? So, again, I ask. What time will Feingold be endorsing John McCain? Because a vote on a bill six years ago is a key indicator as to a senator's choice for president.
I'll take that logic and run with it. McCain was against the Bush tax cuts. Thompson was for them. I would consider that a pretty major event in the Bush presidency. So, I'm guessing Thompson will not be endorsing McCain next week, based on that logic?
Fred's performance in SC will strongly determine his performance on Super Tuesday, and whoever comes out strong on Super Tuesday will be in a strong position to have the nomination
It doesn’t matter whether we approve of this potential move by Thompson in the coming weeks or not.
All I am saying is that IF Thompson drops out and decides to endorse anyone, it is likely going to be McCain.
I am not happy about this; you evidently are not happy about this, either. But it is the reality of the situation.
If I am proven wrong, fine.
I’m up getting out early and voting for Fred. If the weather isn’t too bad I may even ride the Harley to my polling place!
I agree that we aren’t likely to have many Dem crossovers for McCain in SC. With a heavy Black population, it will make SC a battleground between Clinton and Obama
Keep in mind its not an open primary here. The GOP primary is tomorrow and the Dem primary is next week. Voters have to make a choice and cannot vote in both. I expect Obama to clean Hillary’s clock here. She has a better shot of taking Nevada.
The guy who wrote that is a Freeper; isn’t he? Cincinnatus? He needs to e-mail that to every newspaper in SC TODAY. If it hit tomorrow’s newspapers it could be effective, since many SC voters polled said they could change their mind.
Third is an option if the two ahead of you are McCain and Huckabee.
That makes you first, in real world speak, because McCain and Huckabee will go downhill from here.
- M. Huckabee (Dec. 26, 2007)
Please tell me you're kidding about that quote.
Rule of Thumb:
Snow = bad weather for getting out on a Saturday.
Bad weather = low turnout as Libs and low-interest voters stay home.
Low turnout = favorable vote count for Conservatives.
Conservatives = those who will crawl over broken glass to get to the polls.
