Vanity: Fred Closing Fast In South Carolina
1-17-08 | Me

Posted on 01/18/2008 2:48:30 AM PST by Onerom99

I'm hearing word from a friend of mine working on the campaign in SC that Fred is closing very very strong and these polls from SurveyUSA, Rasmussen, and PPP showing him at 16-17% are lagging indicators.

Right now he thinks its closer to Mccain 25, Huckabee 23, Thompson 20, Romney 15..

Big question those.. If Thompson polls 20% and finishes 3rd, can he claim momentum and go on to Florida?! I hope so!

3rd place is not an option.

counter, do you think a narrow third, say, McCain 26, Huckabee 25, Fred 24.5 would be no good?

If you consider the margin of error, Fred could very well be second.

I’m not saying it would be no good.
I’m saying it is not an option.

Fred is going to win.

In other elections, I would agree with you 100 percent, but I think this election is like no other that we have seen and anything can happen. Huckster is getting very bad press lately and who knows how his press will affect him later. Thompson should stay in the race until Super Tuesday at least. Romney is returning the favor to Fred from Michigan and so are his supporters.

Agreed. In fact, I think if he finishes anything but a close 2nd, he will surprise everyone and drop out. That’s just what I have determined from what I’ve heard him say, and reading between the lines. Hope I’m wrong about that.

Give him time. It is just beginning to settle in (in the general media) that McCain and Huckabee are unacceptable. When that settles in, his numbers will take off.

I live in SC and unfortunately I think your friend is dreaming. There is more indications that Huckabee is on the move than Fred. I think Fred is going to finish a distant third (more than 10 points) or maybe even fourth behind Romney who is doing very little here now. Fred needed to spend more time in SC in Nov and Dec, not just the two weeks before the primary.

Fred’s not dropping out.
He’s also not finishing below 1st place.

Rasmussen and Zogby both say there’s still a high precentage who say they could change there mind right up until the minute the vote....I’m hoping a lot of McCain and Huck “voters” go with their gut at the last minute and switch.

Huckabee in third would a; but kill his campaign.

I get the sense right now that if the primary were another 5 days away, Fred would win the state.

Some very good news for Fred is that the media (Hannity last night for instance) is starting to report some of these polls that show Fred gaining some momentum and climbing up to 16, 17% and becoming competitive... There’s alot of voters out there who will switch to Fred if they think he is coming out and has a chance to win...

That’s how the Big Mo’ gets created.

Wow! Haven’t we been doing this since September when he announced????? We are 24 hours away from the voting. That settling better happen QUICK!

What is it about all of these Republican Presidential candidates who possibly plan to “get out” early in the primary season when no Republican has any kind of serious lead right now? It’s truly anybody’s race, and this could be the case all the way to the Republican Convention!

Yea, but Fred needs a good finish to keep the $$$ rolling into the coffers for Florida and Super Tuesday.

If he finishes lousy he’ll have trouble raising the money necessary to compete there.
