FRED THOMPSON, IN OR OUT? (Mother in hospital)
PowerLine ^ | January 19, 2008

Posted on 01/19/2008 8:07:10 PM PST by restornu

Fred Thompson just spoke to his supporters in South Carolina, where he appears headed for a weak third or fourth place finish. Thompson thanked everyone and then spoke about America and conservatism's contribution to it. He did not talk about Florida or being in the race to stay.

Word is that Thompson will return to Tennessee to visit his mother in the hospital. While he's there, presumably, he'll consider his options. Frankly, and I say this with regret, it's difficult to see the case for him remaining in the race.

Fred had a chance in the beginning and when the chance afforded itself, he took TIME to prepare.

He should have always staid in front of the camera, that was his downfall in all this.

He would have been the best candidate.

Fred Thompson is not going to be the GOP nominee for President. To continue support for him is quixotic and ridiculous. It renders FReeper conservatism irrelevant, which clears the way for McCain and may very well have been the point of the Thompson campaign from the beginning.

McCain is almost as bad as Huckabee.

They are both 2 pro-Amnesty socialists/liberals/Marxists who like Hillary Clinton would destroy the United States not to mention the Republican Party.

Recently, the leftist mainstream media can’t help but see Fox News in a new light.
As paraphrased from the old Pogo comic strip:
“They have met the enemy and they is us!”

Huckabee and Romney should drop out and give their support to FRed. A re-united Reagan coalition can and must defeat McCain, Giuliani and Hillary, et al.

Hunter needs to support FRed.

EXCELLENT POST

I find it strange how Rudy has been blasted a liberal when McCain is 1000 x worst! We have witnessed his obstruction and betrayal over and over. How blind can a person be supporting this left wing media whore.

The speach will be a big feature on Rush Limbaugh’s next broadcast.
RINO’s McCain and Huck will be ripped to shreds on same.

I don’t see similar calls for Rudy to drop out, and he hasn’t even registered?

If Rudy loses FL, like Fred lost SC (both states that were heavily competed for by the guy considered to be in a win or get out situation), then, I guarantee you will hear it about Rudy. Fred had his Waterloo today. Rudy made it clear that Florida is his last stand. The media is only being hard on Fred because Fred talked up the importance of SC.

Seriously!

Mr. Robinson, with due respect, Fred can’t even pull those voters together in a primary, how do you expect him to pull them together in a general against what you and I both know is the most dangerous woman in America in or out of office in Hillary Clinton? (Or Barack Obama for that matter.)

Pardon my negativity here but I do think we’re pretty close to being doomed. We may have to take back this country DESPITE the government because taking it back THROUGH the government and the electoral process just doesn’t seem to be working. Once upon a time I believed in a government “of the people, by the people and for the people.” I’m not so sure anymore...

Oh, please. Jim said he’d support McCain before the Huckster.

And we all know how much Jim “loves” McCain.

The media is only being hard on Fred because Fred talked up the importance of SC.

Anybody paying attention to the media lately KNOWS that statement of yours is false.

The media, INCLUDING FOXNEWS, has had it in for Fred from the beginning.

They are ratcheting it up a bit, because as you say, Fred has talked about the importance of SC, however, they really want him gone and will do everything in their power to make is so.

Jim, all this was true as of September 2007 when Fred got in the race. Alas, he didn’t make the case to the voters well enough or something got off track along the way.

Fred didn’t connect with social conservatives well enough and so some peeled off to Huckabee.
Fred didn’t show enough energy and aggressiveness and so some early possible supporters lost interest. Even a guy who put up a Fred website before he announced turned against him because he wasnt performing well.
Fred’s campaign started late, and was not well organized and that cost him.
He seems to turn it up in December and January in Iowa and SC. But for whatever reason, even though he was in SC and IA for a while, he did well, but ran behind Huck in both places.

Unfortunate as he is a far better candidate.

Result - Huck wins, Romney wins, McCain win - but Fred doesnt win.

I’ve called it a Clusterhuck.

If Fred was indeed “the only viable” anything, he’d have gotten better than he did.

Intrade now has McCain with more than 50% shot of being nominee. Romney’s the only guy who can take him out, and it may be all but over if McCain wins FL.

For the first time in months, the buzz is around Fred.

Could it be?

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA

Seriously, man. There were only 3 GOP contenders in the state tonight. All 3 spoke, in order of their failure to beat McCain. There's no weird scheme.

****TIME TO FACE REALITY******

It is over. McCain v Clinton in November—God help us, but that is just the way it is.

I tell you this...I will not be voting for Clinton nor doing anything that would help her chances like not voting for the best candidate to defeat her which OBVIOUSLY will be McCain.
