The end is near. That theme was no doubt a staple of the sermons of the Rev. Mike Huckabee, although the dope from Hope now refuses to release his fire-and-brimstone perorations.
But the polls before yesterdays primary in South Carolina were a veritable Book of Revelations that his political Armageddon was just around the corner.
Too bad, because a come-from-behind victory by the former Arkansas governor would have put a real crimp into John McCains campaign as the candidates head south for the Florida primary on Jan. 29.
The Huckster was doing all right, I suppose, once one got off the main roads and into the red-dirt redneck districts where, as H.L. Mencken once put it, the howls of holiness are heard in the woods. But overall, the Christian leader seemed to know that the wheels were coming off his rusty pickup truck. On the Friday TV liveshots he looked spooked, like one of his favorite snakes had just bitten him.
Earlier in the week the Huckster promised to deport every illegal alien in the country - you know, the same criminals hed been calling children of God a couple of weeks earlier.

You gotta love it. Hey, maybe Hucklebee and Bubba can start a garage band.

“...favorite snakes” Ouch !
Maybe some day Howie will learn how to be right without being an a**hole about it. But I doubt it. In typical Masshole (Mike Barnicle comes to mind)fashion, he can’t make his point without insulting all the great unwashed suckers who could never aspire to be as smart as the sophisticate from the cradle of enlightenment. What a jerk.
NOTHING worse than that self-aggrandizing, idiotic Banacle. There’s nothing worse than a fool who thinks he’s brilliant.
Lets hope the dope gets smoked in Florida. Hookerbee delenda est!
Ed Rollins turned out to be a loud-mouthed, over-the-hill dolt - a veritable Sgt. Carter to the Hucksters Gomer Pyle.Perfect!
Now the Hucksters campaign needs a lot more than a bottle of Chuck Norris favorite K.O. Fitness Recovery Drink.Funny. But it's also serious. As much as I hate Huckastupid -- and I really do hate him -- I would have liked to have seen him knock out McTraitor in SC.
Huckastupid wasn't going anywhere, anyway. Not with the primaries coming up in the bigger states. But now McTraitor is alive and well and that's very, very dangerous.
Why repeat liberal slander from Mass?
Howie Carr calls a spade a spade, as does Ann Coulter. He often nails things right on the head. I don’t like nastiness as a rule, but I think it’s going to take a heaping dose of nastiness to wake people up in this country.
“Its one thing to speak in tongues, its another to speak with a forked tongue.”
And what the article lacks in “brilliance” it makes up in truth.
Howie Carr a liberal?
I don’t think anything’s going to wake this country up. The most conservative voters of the most conservative state in the union just voted 63% for McCain or Huckabee.
How do you wake up from THAT?
Hahaha.... Howie Carr a liberal? It sounds like someone's Ox got gored.
Simple. Elect Hillary.
Thats right. A vote for McCain is a vote for amnesty. If he wins, you can bet the farm that the amnesty bill will be brought back from the dead. And the current policy of look the other way and do nothing will continue.
Oddly enough, he is becoming the man he despises. Mike Barnicle made a habit of gratuitous insults to NH. Howie aims his vitriol farther south.
[Howie Carr calls a spade a spade, as does Ann Coulter. He often nails things right on the head. I dont like nastiness as a rule, but I think its going to take a heaping dose of nastiness to wake people up in this country.]
I use to think that people would wake up and do something, but I now beleive that only disaster will do the job for the typical American in denial.
Oh Please! Howie is just writing the truth in a tongue in cheek style.
“...but I now beleive that only disaster will do the job for the typical American in denial”
We’ve already went down that road & that didn’t wake ‘em up for long.
Howie insults everyone...
I actually agree with you, although I didn't make it explicit. By nastiness I meant more than Howie Carr's rhetoric. I meant a very harsh lesson from the real world, but it will probably cost Americans their prosperity and even their lives.
I was born and raised in Massachusetts. Many people have that condescending attitude toward southern folks. It appears nothing has changed.
Great column!
For those not bothering to read the whole thing:
“But his constituency doesnt care. They just want to hold up John 3:16 signs in the end zone at football games during the point-after kick”
“Exit polls in the early states showed Huckabee winning the support of 93 percent of the voters who have bumper stickers saying their cars will be unmanned when the Rapture occurs. The bad news was, among everyone else in the Republican party, he was running neck and neck with Ron Paul”
Howie is a beacon of light in the Northeast.
If McCain wins the nomination, that “sucking sound” that was heard in 2004 when Bush started pushing amnesty for illegals will be heard ten times louder and more permanent than ever before. A third party will be formed.
Right up to the election, wobbling conservatives (those without backbones) will be faced with the usual dilemna, on this time, it will be the choice between two evils, both of them liberals, one pretending to be a conservative. It will be a disaster for the GOP. The right has had it with RINOs and liberals controlling the Party. Many of us have been Independents since ‘96 or ‘97 after McCain’s buddy’s (Jack “the liberal” Kemp’s) disastrous campaign with Old Man Dole. WHEN are Republicans going to wake up and smell the coffee? The country is going to the right, and conservatives simply aren’t going to tolerate what has been going on for decades. Something HAS to change~
That’s his schtick, dude. That’s like asking Don Rickles to “tone it down.” He wouldn’t be entertaining if he wasn’t so biting.
I occasionally listen to him on the radio and I agree with him. Dude.
