I use to think that people would wake up and do something, but I now beleive that only disaster will do the job for the typical American in denial.

I actually agree with you, although I didn't make it explicit. By nastiness I meant more than Howie Carr's rhetoric. I meant a very harsh lesson from the real world, but it will probably cost Americans their prosperity and even their lives.

I was born and raised in Massachusetts. Many people have that condescending attitude toward southern folks. It appears nothing has changed.

Great column!

For those not bothering to read the whole thing:

“But his constituency doesn’t care. They just want to hold up John 3:16 signs in the end zone at football games during the point-after kick”

“Exit polls in the early states showed Huckabee winning the support of 93 percent of the voters who have bumper stickers saying their cars will be unmanned when the Rapture occurs. The bad news was, among everyone else in the Republican party, he was running neck and neck with Ron Paul”

Howie is a beacon of light in the Northeast.

If McCain wins the nomination, that “sucking sound” that was heard in 2004 when Bush started pushing amnesty for illegals will be heard ten times louder and more permanent than ever before. A third party will be formed.

Right up to the election, wobbling conservatives (those without backbones) will be faced with the usual dilemna, on this time, it will be the choice between two evils, both of them liberals, one pretending to be a conservative. It will be a disaster for the GOP. The right has had it with RINOs and liberals controlling the Party. Many of us have been Independents since ‘96 or ‘97 after McCain’s buddy’s (Jack “the liberal” Kemp’s) disastrous campaign with Old Man Dole. WHEN are Republicans going to wake up and smell the coffee? The country is going to the right, and conservatives simply aren’t going to tolerate what has been going on for decades. Something HAS to change~

That’s his schtick, dude. That’s like asking Don Rickles to “tone it down.” He wouldn’t be entertaining if he wasn’t so biting.
