The only candidate who could have stopped McCain in S.C. was Huck, and that was obvious. Why didn't you support him?

Because Huckabee's even worse than McCain.

McCain is way too liberal and should not be accepted as the “winner” of everything because of South Carolina where 2/3 of the people voted against him.

And that changes the fact that he won South Carolina?

Iran backs off in Iraq and a National Intelligence Estimate appears that says Iran isn’t so dangerous after all.

Interesting analysis

What are your thoughts on the fact that China had been unwilling to support increased sanctions of Iran?

It seems to me that with the subprime mess coupled with higher barrel prices due to uncertainity of war with Iran that fewer americans were spending. China got hit in the pocket book and was willing to support sanctions.

Following this, Iran backed off and subsequently it was discovered in the NIE that Iran had shelved its nuke program in 03.

Sorry. My vote is still with Fred until the end. I hope for a brokered convention, which gives Fred more of a chance.

I agree ... I'm leaving the dance with the one I came in with ... not who the media anoints

No, that is not the choice.

The choice is

restore our constitutional republic with all the liberty and freedom we enjoy or

Become an over-regulated, 3rd-world, socialist nation, governed by whichever snake-oil politician happens to be in charge.

No, the remaining candidates are not as liberal as McCain. McCain is the worst of the candidates. Not only is he liberal, he also has mental and character shortcomings. He betrayed his first wife and he is eager and fighting to sell out his country. The list of his votes on amnesty alone - stated in The Washington Time editorial on Jan. 14 - to reveal the danger his poses for us.

We may survive a RINO in the White House, but not an unbalanced president determined to damage this country.

Fear of Hillary is a good marshalling tool.

But McCain is wrong and any one who looks at his record should know it.

I want to knock McCain out so an alternative will emerge (most likely Romney).

The Establishment as I define it believes ultimately in moderation and weakness in the face of our enemies like Kissinger and Haig.

Current foreign policy is to “contain” those nations formerly referred to as “axis of evil.” Note the nuclear deal with North Korea and the new National Intelligence Estimate on Iran.

McCain’s attacks on “waterboarding” as torture would qualify as an example of this moderation in the face of the terrorists.

Kissinger got a phony Nobel Peace Prize for cutting a deal with Communists in Vietnam that they broke in 1975.

Congress cut the aid to South Vietnam, as many point out, but I still pin it on RINO’s like Kissinger, who now back McCain.

Kissinger was the foreign policy advisor to Nelson Rockefeller, the utlimate liberal Republican of his time.

“Rocky” tried to take on Goldwater in 1964. Ford made him Vice-President in 1974.

I see the bloodline here that leads from Rockefeller to McCain and I don’t like it.

On beating McCain with Romney, let me say you have a good idea there from your perspective.

But mine is that anti-Mormonism will hurt Romney down South.

Huckabee is the only one with power to take away votes from
McCain for that reason in that region.

It should work to Romney’s advantage in the long run.

Wouldn't it be nice if the native son of Missouri who's name inspired mine finally came out of the closet for Romney?

I think Rush likes Romney and Fred. Rush spent several days praising the Romney religion in America speech.

No, that is not the choice.

Yes it is. And unless you and the others on this thread don't get a grip, your rights etc...will be taken by another Clinton administration so that you can feel as righteous as you want while losing your a**.

McCain-Feingold made the First Amendment into toilet paper.

Thompson was one of the original sponsors.

ALL CRITICS CAN SHUT UP AT THIS POINT BECAUSE YOU ONLY HELP MCCAIN BY TRASHING ROMNEY

We have good reason to trash Romney. Romney is a fraud. Just because Rush and the New MSM are pushing him, doesn't make him a conservative. Get your head out of the talk radio hole and do some research.

McCain is not the most conservative person in the race, but he is more conservative than Romney on any issue.

Fair enough. The remaining candidates are almost as liberal as he is. Certainly they're all too liberal to receive my vote.

So you think Rush has been duped? I think you will be very PLEASANTLY surprised by President Romney.

PJ-C I'm up here in this great bastion of liberalism masquarading as "progressivenss." Romney, despite Rush's view. is nothing more than a moderate shill. For goodness sakes, I didn't even know he existed in Mass, and I've been on the floor above him in NH ever since he was elected. I never heard one argument taking place down stairs while he was governor!

Romney is the one who helped enact the great Mass Healthcare Scheme, where you are FORCED to buy health insurance or you get fined. How conservative does that sound to you? There's a plethora of other issues, but it's not worth debating because he's so wishy-washy about the issues anyway.

The problem is if anyone of these moderates get the repub nomination, there will be a dem elected to the WH. The time that conservative repubs need to fight for this election I think has passed. However, for any conservative repubs to vote for a moderate or rino now after what's happened over the past ten years since the repubs took over, would be a travesty for the party. We conservatives have to fight to get our party back.

Have you ever considered that financial leverage from China and or the Arab nations is beginning to hurt our ability to make independent foreign policy decisions?

I have no conclusions but I’m thinking about it.

Europe wants a “peace deal” in the Middle East, Russia, the Arab oil nations and China, too and maybe the Bush efforts there are part of this big new “containment” strategy that is emerging with the old “axis of evil.”

We don’t go after Bin-Laden in Pakistan because of fear of nuclear weapons just like we held back in Vietnam for the same reason in the 1960’s

The old foreign policy is new again.

Someone winning 33 percent is one state is hardly a defining statement that someone should be a winner of it all.

Too many are willing to follow the polls and the drive-bys, and give up on true conservatism.

Hopefully not in the same sense that my ancestors were surprised by general Grant and his frisky matchbox.

You are absolutely correct, in my conspiracy laden mind, the Dems have infiltrated the Republican Party and gotten these RINOS elected.

No, this is our own fault for not sticking to principle. RINOs are the direct result. Now will y'all listen? The major problem is NOT the media, and is NOT the RINOs, which are but the visible end product. It is the moderate Baker wing, the progenitors of the "Big Tent" that has lead us so far astray from Reagan Conservatism.

In this race there are two readily identifiable Bakerites, Fred Thompson and John Mcain. Giuliani is also tied in, as his law firm was complicit in the ports-to-Dubai deal and are also involved in that big-ass NAFTA Highway they're building in Texas. These guys are all part and parcel of the current power mongers in Washington.

Romney got a bit of a blessing too, when GHWB opened his library for his speech before the media. Why there?

Will y'all do me a favor and LOOK? Put down your campaign biases and SEE. What has to go is that damnable Big Tent. Please NEVER call anything springing from the Bush/Baker axis a 'Conservative' for they are not.

They have opposed Reagan Republicans from the start. We need to clean house! Throw the bastards out and never, never vote them back in, I don't care how desperate the cause!
