Harlem Offers Mixed Reception for Hillary

While Barack Obama delivered a barn-burning speech at Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Atlanta — where Martin Luther King once presided over the congregation — Hillary Clinton commemorated Dr King’s upcoming holiday with muted remarks at Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem.

She was in the neighborhood to pick up the endorsement of the church’s influential pastor, Rev Dr Calvin Butts III, who echoed the campaign’s case for her candidacy. “The rhetoric of change in which we are presently engaged must also be accompanied by the experience and ability necessary to succesfully and resourcefully accomplish it,” he said.

Butts said he’d received a number of calls wondering why he would support a white woman over a black man. “This was not and is not and will not become a race-based decision for me,” he said, “and I hope that it has not and will not become a race-based decision for you either.”

Possibly the ministers think that can be over looked because as a Walmart board member she opposed unions which kept wages low.Blacks could not move from Harlem which would hurt collections.

Comment by Tee January 20th, 2008 at 11:32 pm I find the endorsement of the Clintons by churches to be such a mockery of the Word of God. I don’t expect men to be perfect but I do expect the church of the Living God to exemplify a higher moral standard than most. That is why I have the utmost respect for Gov. Huckabee. He is true to his belief unlike these churches.

I would like to know how the churches that support the Clintons reconcile the following: (1) Pro-Abortionists with biblical teaching of honoring and valueing the gift of life given by God the Creator (2) Same-sex marriages/civil union with biblical teaching of God-sanctioned marriage between a man and a woman (3) Lying by both Bill and Hillary (during this campaign contributing statements and attacks on Senator Obama and saying the union try to schedule people so they couldn’t vote) with biblical teaching of knowing the Truth and the Truth shall set you free (4) Years of Infidelity with biblical teaching of loving your wife as Jesus loved the Church

I find the Clintons to be morally corrupt and the churches continue to overlook and support this behavior. I wish they would consider all the lost souls out there who see this hypocrisy and refuse to come to church but instead use it to justify staying in their sin. The churches should recognize the higher good of setting honorable and moral standards and being true to the Word of God rather than the promises and favors of corrupt men and women. Pray for the Clintons, Love the Clintons as God Loves us, correct the Clintons, but please stop sleeping with the Clintons and endorsing and sanctioning sins of the Clintons.

Comment by newday January 20th, 2008 at 11:55 pm She’ll be a great president - now. Obama will be a great president several years down the road - after Hillary has straightened out Bush’s mess.

Comment by Jack January 20th, 2008 at 11:56 pm Ignorance is abound in Harlem and on the previous comments. Thankfully, our country as a whole is not stupid enough to fall for such blatant hypocrisy and stupidity.

Comment by john January 20th, 2008 at 11:57 pm I.m responding to the two comments made by ed s and tee.If Obama were white ,all the blacks would support Hillary, citing the work both her and her husband Bill have done over the years especially for the black people. They would acknowledge Hillary.s long life commitment for their civil rights and economic opportunities. But Obama is black,he is one of them, therefore sudden amnesia has set in,and suddenly Hillary and Bill Clinton are no longer their friends, but their enemies. How ungrateful and hypocritical| Who are the real racists now.

Comment by Jon Bennet January 21st, 2008 at 12:01 am It’s sad that the black community can identify with a degenerate like Bill and the can’t identify with an amazing man like Obama.

I thought it said, "Harem," but that's another thread.

When one scam artist infiltrates another's territory, the fur on their backs stands up.

Harlem is Bill country.

Ok. So, my white, evangelical (like, really)pastor is afraid to hand out voters guides for fear of an IRS audit. Meanwhile, the Black pulpit continues to aid and abet the left in the enslavement and destruction of the black family....and everyone’s ok with that ?

The DNC will never allow a black nominee.

Ask yourself, “why would the master give a slave the keys to the plantation”.

The DNC is the most racist organization on the planet. The blacks know it, but in the seedy underworld of big time politics they also realize they gots ta play ball.

Obama is rockin’ the apple cart, those that didn’t get it before are gettin’ it now. But nothin’s gonna change.

Take your complaint to the Congressional White Caucus.

well I can understand why churches would support a longtime methodist over someone with Hussein in his name.

Imagine if Romney gave a speech at one of the Mormon churches? The leftist MSM would have a cow. But OK for fake Dems to attend Black churches to pander for votes!
The level of hypocrisy is overwhelming.
